Hi all,

I'm new here... just got wind of all the portable possiblities and really liking it. I've placed a bunch of apps and such on a 40gig portable drive, one of which is Thunderbird Portable. Being concerned with security since I routinely leave passwords and account info in my inbox, I looked for encryption options. I really like Cryptainer and other options that mount as a drive but found that it required admin rights, which can obviously be an issue.

I'm offering up a free solution that can be modified to suit your own needs. I used PStart because of it's ability to launch programs on start and exit. Alright... they're both text editors based on the Scintilla editing component... so they're pretty similar in terms of the way they handle editing. SciTE is more generic by default (hence my config changes in the portable version) but it's available on Windows and Linux. Notepad++ is Windows-only, but it's much more polished and easier for the average user to configure. I'd been leaning towards doing a portable version of SciTE simply because it's cross-platform... but, I think Notepad++ will simply be a better fit for most people, so I'm thinking about just doing that instead.

Hi,

I recently purchased a SanDisk Cruzer Titanium 1GB with U3 technology. I accidentally deleted the installation (.exe) file in the drive, then struggled to find where to download it again but found it at http://u3.sandisk.com/download/lp_installer.asp.

Now, when I try installation it, the following error message appears:

'Launchpad installation failed!

Reformatting of the smart drive failed. The drive might be unusable. You might be able to recover by rerunning this installer.'

I have tried rerunning the installer, but alas to no avail.

It has a 5 year warranty, so do you think it's worth contacting SanDisk support directly or trying to get it replaced? Have I damaged it completely? Should the .exe file ever be deleted?

How can PStart be made to work on a CD to launch the new apps?
If not, is there another launcher that can?

I went to modify ThunderbirdPortable's launcher, and it includes an include whose file (registry.nsh) isn't included with the distribution. John, would you kindly put up a link to the file and include everything needed to compile next time you make a release of any portable app?

Hey,
I happened to run accross this portable email client. It is a scaled down thunderbird (..also). I have been using it for a bit, and I like it, just wondering if anybody has tried both..how do they compare? I really don't feel like setting everything back up just to try it...at least not until I get another usb drive

I am using the portable versions of firefox and thunderbird for a long time already and I am very happy and thankfull of the work of John T Haller in this field. Since I am travelling soon, i wamted to update my USB Stick with the latest version of the portable App Suite. However the download links from this website pointing to Sourceforge was no successfull at all. I always received the errormessage: Could not read the file!! I tried it with every possible downlaod link, but all were unsuccessfull and received the same answer!

What happened?

My question is which portable apps could you NOT imagine life without?

For me its:
1)
Portable Firefox with Switch Proxy extension. (I can use it on multiple customer sites)

2)
Freemind with locally installed Java. (It's just how I think !)

3)
OpenOffice. I don't use this on a daily basis but it has saved my bacon more than once.

Despite having a full 1GB drive, these would be my top 3.

I have done a search but have been unable to find one.

Does anyone know of a MP£ organiser, that is able to be installed on a USB?
