MUICache (Do I need to be concerned)

Submitted by techguyone on June 30, 2006 - 5:16am

Hi, can someone explain how this works?

i've been looking at various "portable" software titles and i have been checking the registry to see if anything gets written.

Then I stumbled across MUICache, and I see in there everything.

for example:
D:\System Core Files\USB Key Files\USB Apps\PStart\PStart.exe
D:\System Core Files\USB Key Files\USB Apps\PortableOpenOffice\PortableOpenOfficeWriter.exe
and so on, now, does this stuff disappear after a reboot, or is it there forever, because that worries me in that anyone (who knows what they are doing) can see exactly what's been installed/run? on this PC, despite my wanting to make it portable and thus untraceable.

Suggestion for security

Hi there,

I would really appreciate it if someone could direct me in the right direction.

I have just bought myself a 1GB USB drive and have downloaded PortableMozilla and Filezilla. I save my web site username and password in Mozilla as well as username and passwords in Filezilla.

What is the best way to protect this information on the drive, because right now if someone had to pick up my USB drive they could have access to all my information. I have seen file encryption software, but I don't want to encrypt and decrypt everytime I use my USB drive.

The ideal situation for me would be to plug in my USB drive, enter a password, which would then give me access to everything on the drive until I unplug.

Forum Guidelines Thoughts

I just realized I hadn't offered up a commentary thread on the Forum Guidelines after I had updated them last month. As the site has gotten more popular, there have been a few more advertising-type postings popping up here and there. The Forum Guidelines are an attempt to keep the forums friendly, personal, and ad-free... while still allowing commercial entities to respond to postings specifically about their products and entities releasing open source programs to make a product release announcement or two a month.

Libertà: Looking for new staff.

I am going to put some ads on Sourceforge for a Documentation Writer and a Linux Compiler/ Packager and a Release Tech soon but if any one here is interested then please post of e-mail me.

The Documentation Writer will be needed as soon as the new site is up to write the Handbook and th Readme's etc. No specific amount of time needs to be spent on it, just write some when you can.

The Linux Compiler / Packager needs to be able to use a C++ compiler and have a small amount of C++ knowledge so that all of the C++ apps can be ported to 'nix.

The Release Technician. The developers would e-mail you their latest build and you would do a quick check to see if it worked and all of the files (readme etc) were there and then package it up in a self extracting archive and up load it to Sourceforge. That way all of the apps will have the same file naming conventions etc. You would also be in charge of maintaining the Suite when it is released and for putting up announcements when the software is released.

AppInfo?

Does anyone know what this "AppInfo" folder is that John's been including on the later PortableApp releases? ie. "Apps\PortableFirefox\AppInfo"

Is it for the PortableApps launcher that he's working on?

FingerGear bootable USB drives?

Submitted by johnnyh on June 23, 2006 - 12:57pm

I noticed these new USB drives on the market and was wondering if any of you knew what they did and how?

http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/news/articles/story_6844.html

Are they actually useful or is it some kind of BS hype? I'm wondering if you could just stick it in and boot an OS of it on any computer you come across. Highly doubtful, but it would be nice.

Can anyone give me the rundown? Thanks...

Holidays!

Well I'm off again to God knows where.
I'll be back in two weeks. However, this time I may be able to come online once or twice since we have a laptop this time.
Mind you, I'm still taking my USB.
Just like to say thanks to John again, since we are borrowing someone else's laptop and my dad thought we were stuffed cause it only had Outlook and he didn't want to modify it.
I showed him Portable Thunderbird. He is converted.
Anyway, any questions, comments etc?
Those icons are pretty much done for Libertà (well only the folder icon is done but that's the base) except for the main one. Choose a font Steve! Unless, you don't read your emails anymore...
