During all the hecticness (if that's not a word, it is now) of moving servers, updating Drupal and releasing apps, I just realized I forgot to make a post about the new server that PortableApps.com is hosted on. So, without further adieu...
As most folks noticed, the Slashdotting and Digging that PortableApps.com was getting earlier in the year weren't handled very well by our old shared host. The site wound up getting suspended a few times and very slow at others. Many features -- like site-wide searching -- also had to be disabled on a regular basis. I had been looking around for a while at dedicated hosts and what would be involved in terms of cost and ongoing server maintenance. After the overloads started, I began looking much more earnestly and getting some quotes from various providers.
Hey all, I've been doing so many other things lately, that I haven't had time to post here, so it's good to be back Anyway, the real point of this story is that Google has released a spreadsheet that can be accessed from the web. You need to sign up though, as it's a limited test. You have to have a Google Account obviously, but who doesn't have one of those by now?

Hey guys,
Just wanted to post a note to let everyone know I'm back from Russia. I just got in a little while ago and am pretty beat (it's after 2am according to my internal clock). I'd mentioned the trip in-forum and given more details to some via email. I was in Russia for 2 weeks. 1 week in Moscow followed by 1 week in St Petersburg. I was keeping an eye on things from Moscow as I had internet in my hotel. Unfortunately, while in St Petersburg, my home PC hung and I couldn't connect in securely, so I didn't post anything then, though I did peak in on things to make sure everything was working.

First of all I'm looking to buy a USB Thumb Drive to use at work.
I work at a gas station, and when it's slow I'm terribly bored.
There's a computer with a LAN connection.
A couple of my co-workers have said you can get in trouble if it's used for my person use.
Would using a jump drive with apps on it, allow me to surf the net without being detected? I'm sure somewhere they would detect the bandwidth usage... anyway around that?
Thoughts?
Hey John,
the latest issue of Australian NetGuide, June 2006, started offering software from the NetGuide website. The latest downloads include Portable Applications including:
POO.org, PTB, PFZ, Portable Gaim and PNVU.
Just thought you'd like to know.
I decided to make it due to some many ppl wanting it at school. I only have 1 problem is in the menu it goes to some weird colors, then when i play the game it switchs back to normal.
Hi Guys and Gals,
I was just thinking that it would be great if there was such a thing as an online app just like photoshop or paint shop pro.
With the level of web development im amazed that there nothing tike this out there, or am i wrong?

Suddenly I feel really newbish and dumb for asking..
But I'm new to using portable apps(which is strange because i'm usually traveling around with my dad) and i was wondering what are the best programs to have for your USB? I already downloaded Openoffice and Gaim and firefox, but I was wondering if there was other things you think would be really useful to have in the future?
I did search the Site like the guidelines said and the only thing that came close was the topic 'whats on your USB?' but you guys cite alot of programs that aren't on this site and sorta don't post many links.. (I don't mean that as an insult!!)
