Pop-up blocker?

Submitted by Jorlwind on June 15, 2006 - 8:20pm

I hate asking at forum's that i'm not a long-time member, and it seems like i've already done it too much here. I'm just hoping you guys can help.

Basically there's a small story here. My sister's boss is having computer problems, some sort of adware problem(i won't know exactly what i'm dealing with until I get there) but i was sort of drafted against my will into taking a bit of a look at it. (to earn her some good points with her new boss)

there's a small problem though. The computer is suposed to have a bad popup issue. hopefully booting up in safemode will disable them but just in case i was wondering if there was a portable popup blocker?

Password Protect Folders on USBs

Submitted by twnty3svn on June 14, 2006 - 5:12am

I know there has been alot of discussion about file encrypters, however has anyone got any recomendations about any USB Folder Protectors. I have been researching Keynesis Lockngo program, and that seems great to lock down your drive, however i just want to lock certain folders (with out encrypting/or with, but fast access).

Folder Password Expert USB seems good, but trial version dosn't really allow enough options to work with, and Folder Lock, is good, but i'd prefer to have a program with keyboard shortcuts that allow me to unlock folders (similar to Universal Shield).

Is there such

Has anyone had any real sucess with using MiniUp back up software?

Submitted by techguyone on June 11, 2006 - 6:02am

This in theory is a good idea, a portable back up utility, tell it source and destination folders, and it backs up your data.

Wel I tried this just now with just 3.70 mb of files. It launched, I got a progress indicator up, then.... well a LOT of hard drive activity, task manager said the process was still running, 10 mins later I got bored, killed with task manager.
Has anyone else tried this program?
I know flash drives don't exactly set the world on fire with read/write speeds but still... 3.70 mbs isn't a lot of files.

"Relative" Paths for Shortcuts on Portable Drives?

Submitted by CallMeZoot on June 10, 2006 - 3:52pm

Hi,

I have my portable applications in a "Program Files" folder on my Thumbdrive.

I have shortcuts to these programs in the root directory, but these only work on computers where my thumbdrive has the same drive letter.

Is it possible to make a "relative" path to these applications, so that my Shortcut links will work no matter what the drive letter is? If not, any other tips for quick startup of applications?

Thanks,
chris.

All-In-One

John,

your Portable Apps are absolutely fantastic!!! They helped me so much at my current occupation since I have to travel to the Internet.

Could you think of providing an "All-In-One" Download of ALL the portable Apps in one download - similar to the "Portable Apps Suite", just with all the listed apps?

Regards,
desrtfx
