I've seen flash drive speed discussed in terms of read/write data transfer rates, which I can understand if I'm transferring large files. But how does it relate to launching and running programs, which is what I really care about?

What's important to me (and I would spend $$ to speed up) is the time needed to launch and start using an app.

When an app is launched, is it read into RAM and executed there? If so, I can see that transfer rate is important. Or, does it run on the drive? In that case does advertised "speed" relate to program execution?

First time poster but long time user of PA. Thanks to everyone here who has worked hard to make PA what it is.

Is there a program that will encrypt the entire flash drive for on-the-fly encryption? I saw a thread here about TrueCrypt that sounded good, but it wasn't clear that this is available yet.

I am new to portable apps. I saw this forum topic https://portableapps.com/node/5123. I have a doubt about that. Why can't someone redistribute installed portableapps in a usb drive. These software being GPL/MPL installed binaries can also be distributed right?

Another point i would like to know is, it was mentioned that someone cannot use trademark in packaging, advertisements, does that mean referring to portable apps as source?

Whenever I try to open CoolPlayer+ Portable,a dialog box opens with this message-NSIS Error,Error Launching Installer.I uninstalled CoolPlayer+ and installed it again but the same thing is happening.What should I do to make it work???????Helpp!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know how fast this would be? Currently running PA on a thumb drive (not the best, not the worst) but it's still kinda slow and it gets irritating sometimes.

EDIT: Should mention, the ipod would be plugged-in with the official apple sync/charge dock station

how can i rename the name of a product i downloaded? There are a few programs that have names too long for the window. I have tried to rename the file by clicking on its title, but the change is not reflected.

I thought it would be cool if someone could make a search engine for Firefox that would go in the search box. I do a lot of searching, and finding, on Portableapps.com, so it would be useful if someone could make one.
