How to verify an app file using the provided MD5 Hash key?

Submitted by LaurentZG on October 1, 2014 - 3:45pm

Hello,

I have for some time been wondering how I could verify the downloaded apps using the MD5 Hash keys, but have been unsuccessful in doing so.

I have downloaded and installed the Rapid CRC Unicode Portable app, but I am not able to figure it out. For example, and if Rapid CRC Unicode is the right app for doing this, if it's the install file of a downloaded app I should check or if it is all the files after installation....

We're now starting to see more apps which are dropping support for Windows XP. I'm wondering how the community would like to handle this. We'd like to maintain a list of last-working versions for users to be able to obtain. We'll include a caveat about bugs, security issues, and it being unsupported, of course.

Foxit another instance of Foxit is running

Submitted by vhugo2 on September 24, 2014 - 12:41pm

I am using Foxit portable as my default PDF program. Though I have set it to open pdf's in the browser (IE) it will not. Also, if I open a pdf stored on my computer, and I then go to a website and try to view a pdf in the browser (say a form 1040) I get the message that another instance of Foxit is running and to please shut it down.

Can anyone help?

Desktop Chrome interfering with Portable Chrome?

Submitted by mindstormer on September 23, 2014 - 11:56pm

Have a very frustrating problem that seems to be a conflict between running both Desktop Chrome and Portable Chrome at the same time. I get the message "Chrome detected that some of your browser settings were corrupted by another program and reset them to their original defaults" and had to resync everything. This wouldn't be that big of a problem if it weren't for:

1. I have a bunch of open tabs on Chrome Portable that I keep losing (Xmarks doesn't backup because Xmarks is signed out and even though the extension is synced back after Portable Chrome is wiped, its settings are lost).

Sysinternals Process Explorer - Not Portable?

Submitted by KhunRoger on September 20, 2014 - 7:33am

When Sysinternals' "Process Explorer" runs, it uses the registry to store its settings.

So when it is run on a PC that already has been set up to use Process Explorer (i.e. columns selected, colours chosen, font chosen, etc), these settings get irretrievably lost by the version of Process Explorer run from a PortableApps thumb drive.

Occasionally when I am running the PortableApps platform off of my 500GB Toshiba Canvio Connect Portable Hard Drive, all of the apps will crash and display the following message in a balloon from the notification area:

Windows-Delayed Write Failed

Windows was unable to save all the data for E:/@BitMap. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
