Open with... a portable app failing with Win 10 ?

Submitted by ThierryC on November 10, 2016 - 3:51pm

Hello,

I guess this issue is related to Windows 10, since I did not notice something similar in Windows 7 or 8.

Example of the issue:
I want to decompress the files example.7z.001, example.7z.002 with 7zip, which are not directly recognized as manageable with 7zip. So I use Open with and I browse for 7-ZipPortable.exe (I also tried the executable in the App folder). But nothing happens.
The program finally opens after a crazy long time (~ 10 min. measured).
If I open manually in 7zip, it is immediate.

advert on PA including pornographic image

Submitted by Wm ... on November 8, 2016 - 6:44am

I have just been served an advert on portableapps.com that included a pornographic image that is illegal to possess in the UK. Think animal and lady.

I have a screenshot in case anyone doesn't believe me but would prefer for obvious reasons to be able to delete it.

Meanwhile I will be blocking ads on PA.com

How to rename custom categories?

Submitted by Xenos71 on November 4, 2016 - 7:07am

Hello all,
I've been searching about a way to rename custom categories, but I can't find anything.
Double click or right click on the category name doesn't open any menus. Also, I can't find any hidden file (containing information about categories) inside the portableapps directories that I could edit.
So, is there a way to rename the custom categories that I create?
Thanks in advance

when I open the AcrobatDCPortable, it shows :
"configuration error
Please uninstall and reinstall the product
If this problem still occurs, please Contact Adobe technical support for
help and mention the error code shown at the bottom of this screen.

Error:16

"

why it appears? is there something wrong with the lanuch.ini? Or liscence check collision?

Alternatives for JDownloader for Windows or Linux?

Submitted by trust on October 25, 2016 - 1:07pm

Yes, JDownloader is portable in itself, just isn't an official PortableApp. But I find Java apps gross, so I wonder if there are any decent apps for the same purpose more native to Windows and Linux, respectively? I haven't really found any. Requiring .NET is more native than requiring Java in my books. Thanks!

cooperation and Deluge torrent client

Submitted by trust on October 25, 2016 - 12:59pm

I just learned that uTorrent was mining bitcoin on users' computers, so I was looking for a replacement. One is Deluge, and (removed) is providing a proper PortableApps.com formatted version of it, among other apps.

(removed) says:

"We believe that free/open source software is enough, we don't need pirated softwares on Windows. But most of these aren't portables, or provided by PortableApps.com due to .NET dependencies, 64-bit etc. So we provide what's missing here.
