I know the "Portable Apps for Linux" heat has kind of died down, but I'd like to say a few words why this isn't moving along.

On Windows, when you install a program, you get a folder with the program files, and possibly a few registry entries and configuration files (usually in the same folder as the program). Therefore, it is not too difficult to take the program (or make a launcher :), modify it so that it does not save registry entries, and publish that. All the necessary dependencies and outside functions are stored in the dll files found scattered all over a Windows install.

I have a game called Lego Racers and I'm making it portable. I also have SMART Technologies applications (like SMART notebook etc.) and I'm making that portable. Can I legally make it a beta app so that others can download it from this website?

I hope I am asking the right way, as I am not used to Forums...
I am looking for a password protection I can install on my USB key that will ask for a password before opening, without encryption, so that I can use it on any PC (so without ADM priviledge)during travelling, free or not..
I looked very hard on the net but most come with encryption and always with the necessity of using it on a PC with adm priviledge..

I'm using Portable Firefox & Portable Thunderbird which I have updated online before I read the FAQ which said this was no longer advisable. Now, when I shut down, I find instances of (non-portable) FF & TB on the host computer, which need to be stopped before I can unplug. ?Is this normal behavior?? ?Is it related to my updates?? ?Should I install the newer Portable versions over the updated ones??

Okay, i just bought new 16gb sandisk cruzer flash drive.
Before it i used Transcend Jetflash 512mb.
After i copied all data, including portableapps, on cruzer, i got one small problem.
Firefox was extremely slow. (Standart Firefox portable, non-u3)
I disabled about ten addons, but i still get lags and freezes when i try to move on page or open new. Lags about 1-5 secs.
On transcend firefox working perfectly. But CheckFlash said that cruzer have read/write speed about x3 times faster than jetflash.
Pegtop PStart also working slower on cruzer, but other apps seems to work much faster...

Does anyone know what happened to the CXBX page? I thought I'd test it out today but the page is non existant

Will someone, please, point me to the FAQ that shows how to synch-up PortableApps with with desktop apps?

I need to be able to synch Bookmarks, data files, etc.

Also, is there a way to share settings, such as in Firefox so that they both perform the same way?

I just posted a comment about 5 minutes ago, the tracker [and comment itself] show it to be an hour and 5 minutes old. I also noticed this earlier.

so I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the forum servers time. If so I guess this could have something to do with DST switch. Today was the first time I noticed this.

There's a bug in Mines-Perfect when: if you select a huge quantity of columns/rows/mines (like 256), Mines-Perfect suddenly stops working with an error -- giving the same error and closing when you try to start it again.

Solution: Just delete \PortableApps\Mines-PerfectPortable\Data\settings\mineperf.ini

I know this topic may have been brought up before...but i was just wondering if AVG Free Antivirus could ever be made portable, as i have always thought AVG Free does a better job than Clamwin.
