Run Linux app inside Windows from USB memory stick?

Submitted by ryan14 on April 4, 2010 - 8:04am

Ok google chrome( http://www.google.com/chrome?platform=linux&hl=en ) runs on Linux. I have Windows ME(millenium) and chrome for windows only works on Windows XP and higher.

Is there a software that can install a portable mini version of Linux onto a USB memory stick, and then install google chrome onto the USB memory stick. Then I could put a google chrome shortcut icon on my Windows ME desktop, and when i double-click on it, it will load google chrome from my USB memory stick?

Looking for an alternative portable game

Submitted by Debray6379 on April 3, 2010 - 10:34am

I've been playing an old game I dug up recently and have been having some good old fashion fun... the game is Future Cop L.A.P.D I mainly play the precinct assault side of the game and some friends of mine have it too... So we got to wondering if there are any portable {or not} alternatives to this game that are more up to date and if we were really lucky one with multi-player similar to Halo Custom Edition any ideas???

Not sure if you guys heard, but in possible anticipation of a "slim" Xbox 360 lacking the proprietary memory card slots, Microsoft is adding USB Mass Storage support to the 360 the Tuesday after next. After that point, you'll be able to put a flash drive in, and have it format up to 16GB for storage of save games and even full games (though for those, you still need the disc in the drive, they're not going to let you rent, copy, return, and play).

Warning! Kingston DataTraveler MiniSlim.... Kingston = greed

If you have had a Kingston DataTraveler Mini Slim you know what I'm talking about.
Here is an example of how greed takes precedence over customer satisfaction. If you take a look at it and you'll see the thin plastic parts around the contact area. These breaks down after a short period of use. Below electrical circuits become visible and memory will fail, I know.

Any reasonably intelligent person can figure that out, so one can only conclude that …. Kingston=greed

Time to say "goodbye"

Well, it's finally happened. A couple of life's weird quirks have come at the same time, and in a fashion that will keep me off PortableApps (and possibly offline) for anywhere from a month to nearly two years.

I'd like to say thanks to all the PortableApps members; it's been a real blast working & talking with you guys, and I'll always smile when I remember some of our best moments together.
