Linux Question

Submitted by horrormaster34 on June 5, 2008 - 4:55pm

I want to install linux without a GUI (GNOME, KDE, etc.), but still want to use GUI based applications (Firefox, OpenOffice, etc.). Is there anyway of doing this? I was thinking I could just simply compile my OS with X Window System and some appropiate extentions, but I'm not entirelly sure if that would work.

Neon Scripting Language (Suggestions Wanted)

This is a project I have been working on. It is a scripting language written in C++. It currently is almost fully functional. (It doesn't support ifs whiles or declaring functions or classes.) I am looking at expanding the library. I already plan on making a GUI and IO library with wxWidgets. I currently need the following.

  • A string replace algorithm
  • A regular expression library
  • Anything else that might be useful

Thank you.

Delphi

Yeah, I wanted to make something for the platform and wanted to see the source for the menu to get inspiration, when captain obvious shot me with a hand gun and I realized I didn't know Delphi commands. I couldn't find anything in the library catalog, and I couldn't find anything on the internet other than an online manual for Delphi 4. I realized that John would know this, but he doesn't regularly post here. So here is my question:
Does anybody got a good online manual of Delphi (Link Please) and a link to a free compiler?

Choice of USB stick

Submitted by robinsmidsrod on May 29, 2008 - 2:32pm

I have a Corsair VoyagerGT USB stick (16GB flash), and I must say I'm pretty displeased with the write behaviour of the device. Whenever I write to the device everything stops and my apps seem to hang for some moments (5-10 seconds usually).

Is there anything to do about this, or is it just a stick with poor performance?

If it is the stick, do any of you have suggestions for a USB stick which doesn't block like this when you write to it?

The bigger the size, the better of course. If the stick has AES hardware encryption it is even better.

Erk IExplore.exe problems

Submitted by Norse1 on May 29, 2008 - 6:12am

Hi all. I am new and I have to admit a dunce when it comes to the computer world. Most of what I have learnt has been trial and error. My question is I seem to have problems with certain sites and IEXPLORE.EXE error appears and my site closes down - I am not able to pay to have the errors fixed is there another way of fixing my problem?
Appreciate any advice.

How do you detect Fake memory?

How does one detect a fake memory stick or flash drive. i know some of the obvious signs. The deal being too good (IE 16GB thumb drive for 10 dollars), Floppy drive slow write read times, Random corrupt files and the obvious look (Hmm Lexar is misspelled a Iexor... hmm :| )

I found a program out there that allows one to reformat a thumb drive to what ever size you want... but it isnt open source and is windows only and i run linux.
