hi! i just wanted to suggest or request to the site administrator of portableapps.com: Can you put some label: something like "new", "updated",or "latest version" with regards to the list of applications in this page https://portableapps.com/apps ?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to portable applications. As far as I know, portable applications can run from an external usb drive, and they do not need to be installed. Does this mean using them can keep Windows clean and fast?
The GM CIO said he's also interested in exploring other emerging IT approaches, including what is sometimes called a "PC on a stick" -- a USB drive that is loaded with the user's desktop. The drive can recreate that desktop on multiple machines.
The "PC on a stick" technology can "enable my home PC to do everything that I want to do at GM," said Kline. The drive is encrypted, so a misplaced drive would result simply in the loss of a $15 device, he said. "It's something I'm pushing really hard with my technology guys - that's got my eye," he said.
hi all,
does anybody know an app that can sync my outlook at work (some kinda of MS activesyn) with my new smart phone. they blocked all software installment and activesync is not allowed to because of security(?!) resaons.
I read somewhere that active sync is not possible to make portable but is there other software that can do the same?
tx!
Is there an easy way to test whether a program is compliant with the PAF standards of portability?
I am one (of many) who does what John T. opposes, running portable software on my hard drive. Strictly because of ease of backup/reinstall. My recent upgrade to Win7 went incredibly easily because of use of a separate program partition and use of portable software.
Firstly many thanks for the wonderful platform you have made and supported and all the work people have made in creating all the apps over the years.
As you all know supporting an app is a major amount of work in itself. In regards for FREEWARE apps would it not be a good idea to have a contact person for each app. This contact person would automatically receive all support request from users regarding their freeware app from their forum thread (or other support environments).
This would have a number of advantages.
I've noticed that recently we are getting quite a few number of revision releases. Also news bodies have some mistakes. Now, I don't want to sound to be picky and I know alot of efforts are being put but wouldn't having a quality assurance team help serve better quality (releases/news)?
Hello,
I´m trying to create some launchers/shortcuts to run cmd.exe from my stick in the local installation (with parameters).
So far I have tried with some variables but they haven´t work, like
%HomeDrive%\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
%SystemDrive%\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
Also with %ComSpec% and %Path% .
It doesn´t work neither if I leave "\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe" since it uses the drive of the usb.
Any help on how to make it work?
