GTK Version (Pidgin & GIMP) - Supporting Windows 9x?

I've been debating which version of GTK to bundle with Pidgin Portable 2.1 when it is released. Up until now, I've been bundling GTK 2.6.x since it still supports Windows 95/98/Me. However, 2.6 is no longer maintained and 2.10.x has been adding in lots of handy bug fixes with each release. So, it comes down to two choices:

1. Keep bundling 2.6 with the packages and have the products still have some of the old bugs but work on Windows 95/98/Me

2. Bundle 2.10 and have the packages, by default, not work with Windows 95/98/Me

Reducing Multiple EXE's to One / Launchers

Submitted by pa_mike on July 30, 2007 - 10:42pm

I've noticed on the boards some folks having the problem about including non-official PortableApps programs by just placing them in the PortableApps directory. Although many of these programs have been looked at and determined to run fine off of USB drives, the problem crops up that multiple EXEs in the program folder show up in the PAM. To correct this issue many have created launchers for some of these programs.

PortableApps renamed my external hard drive!

Submitted by evil_fatneck on July 27, 2007 - 4:44pm

Hi all,

I mistakenly started to install PortableApps on my external hard drive. I quickly cancelled the install and put it on the flash USB drive which was where it was supposed to go. Great product indeed, thanks!

But...in Windows Explorer my external HDD now shows up as PortableApps. I tried to rename it and it just switches back instantly to PortableApps. In Disk Management it is called what I have renamed it back to (Seagate, somewhat imaginatively!)

Spyware found in command_prompt_portable_1.0.paf.exe

Submitted by Cicer0 on July 27, 2007 - 9:35am

I'm a new, and now somewhat worried user. Yesterday, after first experimenting with the Suite and deciding to begin portable app'ing, I tried to download and install my first standalone application (see subject). As soon as the download completed, my spyware blocker (Zone Alarm) popped up a warning that it was infected. The message was specific but I was too startled to write it down in my haste to first quarantine and then delete the file. Now I'm worried that other portable app's might be similarly infected.

How do you make a theme?

Submitted by chequered maniac on July 27, 2007 - 8:25am

I'm guessing that the theme is just jpg's and all you have to do is edit them but if not could some tell me how.

another problem

I downloaded the base edition of the suite because I don't have the suite where I am at the moment. I had a good look through the forums and found the file path for the theme, but the only thing in \PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu is

-icons(folder)
-license.txt
-PortableAppsMenus.exe
and-readme.txt

and apparently I should at least have a data folder and inside that a themes folder

thanks

Why do you need a seperate PDF Reader

Submitted by chequered maniac on July 27, 2007 - 5:40am

I'm most likely going to get some bad comments about this but the way I look at it is, if you have firefox you have a pdf reader in it, or at least you can download it just like a flash player and I'm sure that someone may argue that you'd want a separate one for offline use but I would be fairly sure you can open pdf's when not connected to the net.

But please if there is a blatantly obvious reason to have foxit of sumatra, tell me.
Its more curiosity then an arguement

Removing pen drive from PC

Submitted by teegeeman on July 26, 2007 - 11:53pm

I have Win XP SP 2 at home. After using and shutting down all portable applications, when I select remove hardware option and click the pen drive and ask for it to be stopped, it is unable to do so. This did not happen earlier when I did not have portable apps in my pen drive. I have to shut down the PC to remove the pen drive, for fear of corrupting the files. Kindly tell me what can be done about this.
