Can I hack PAM to look for Portable Apps in more than one location?

Submitted by ak.h on February 3, 2010 - 11:49pm

I have installed bblean on my flash drive and currently have it auto starting w/ PAM 2.x beta. This is nice and all however my version of bblean has been combined w/ several other shell replacements. One of the shell replacements (cameo) incorporates some portable apps however those need to be installed in the root of the bblean folder which as of now is in the portable apps folder. (e.g. \PortableApps\bbLean)

Is there a way to hack or modify PAM 2.x Beta to not only look in the portable apps folder (\PortableApps\bbLean) but also the bblean (\PortableApps\bbLean\apps)folder?

Paint.net - available - works great - English

Paint.net is portable and it works great. You can find it at the following link. (in English)

If you look hard enough you can find this information in these forums but I had a dificult time finding it so I thought I would start a new topic, to make it easier for people to find the information.

PAM Theme Rating System

Submitted by jamvaru on February 1, 2010 - 9:34pm

Is there, or would such be possible, a rating system for themes, as it seems there are now 1000's of themes, so browsing them is rather tedious... we need a hosting or link forwarding site that has thumbnails and rating systems via voting. Would a wiki be appropriate for this or something else?

Any ideas?

Categories, searching themes, rating themes, sorting by rating or color, etc.

thanks

Portable Apps and Netbooks

Submitted by adisaunders on January 31, 2010 - 11:08am

I am thinking of buying a netbook for home instead of bring my work laptop home with me all the time. Do portable apps still work with netbooks that have usb drives? some state that they have windows xp installed. others say they work on linux which I have never come across before.

Is a netbook a simplified laptop without the optical drives?

Reasons to Use PAs on my own computers?

Submitted by Walt Kowalski on January 30, 2010 - 1:49pm

I no longer use "public" computers. I always have my own computer with me now. Tell me again, why should I use Portable Apps?

When I started using PAs, a few years ago, I sometimes used computers at the library or internet cafes, etc. Now I have a notebook computer, and a netbook that I take anywhere I go. I cannot imagine using a "public" computer again, except in an extreme emergency.

Are there any real advantages to installing PAs on my own computers, rather than the standard versions of the same programs that write to the Windows Registry?

Portable apps on Notebook running Windows CE 5.0

Submitted by JoChallacombe on January 30, 2010 - 11:12am

Hi!

I've got a mini notebook on its way to me and it runs Windoes CE 5.0. Apparently a lot of notebooks are running this, although I've never heard of it!

Will the portable apps on this site work on Win CE? It comes with really basic apps like Wordpad, and I would like to be able to run some decent programs on it but are they compatible?

Also, I've heard that Win CE comes with an old version on IE and doesn't have any flash support, is there a flash player with the Firefox portable app?
