General discussions of portable apps and news.
Happy Holidays everyone.. I hope that you enjoy the theme that I just made with the help of PAM Theme Builder.
I've done some minor editing on the Development Test Releases page. I've removed the ability to sort since it was slowing the page down quite a lot. The zebra striping is now done via a simple (and fast in the browser) CSS3 rule. That means it won't show up striped in IE but will in Firefox, Chrome and Opera. The end result is that the page will pop right up for all users now.
Right, so I've been looking for a portable "virtual drive" for ages now, and my Google feng shui only revealed a couple of dead topics and a thread here and there, but, for those who've been looking for such an app, I have an answer.
The closest thing to portable virtual drives, was VCdControlTool by Microsoft, but A. it has been discontinued, and B. It officially only supports Windows XP, and C. It doesn't support 64 bit operating systems. - Which was a deal breaker for me.
Hello,
I like the portable apps thing very much. But one thing is kinda "missing".
You need to install special apps created for the platform. Platform is tiny and great. Good job.
But what about to create kinda "bridge" between windows and the platform. What i exactly mean is to manipulate the variables like %appdata% to a folder on the USB device. This way it would be possible to install any program on the device.
Think about it

This may sound like a silly question but how can I make shortcuts in my flashdrive to open applications? I know how to make them but they don't work on a different computer once I have made them.
FF 3.6.12
FileZilla (to set-up before use that's why)
Notepad++ (OK it is usable after several hits and a very long wait but langs.xml failed without noticeable effect!)
I run FF 2 on a dial-up machine and it tried to connect twice. I removed the first one but left the second in just to verify normality. Which is the clue - along with the insistent Google box.
So - Why? and how to make these apps work off-line on a PC that has never connected.
i know you can use wine to install windows apps on linux but i was wondering if there's a native linux portable apps or if it can be run like on windows
I was just playing around with my portableapps.com standard installation, when I had decided to see if i could put some of my regular full desktop apps (IE Collection, mozilla firefox collection, as well as the emulator known as MESS, as well as ubuntu windows installer known as Wubi.)on the usb drive and make them work from portableapps.com. so i made folders with the titles of the apps original names, and put the word portable at the end of there name WITHOUT SPACES.
I was wondering what the latest platform is. i cant seem to se anything except a beter version of the new 2.0 platform that came out in july this year. Maybe I have missed something. If so i am sorry for an extra post. can you link me to things so i can be kept up to date.
I like the idea of automatic updates. atm the auto updater is separate from the platform i have and has a different directory structure than the platform so i have to have 2 entries. one in the updater and one in the platform. takes up some extra space on the flashdrive. hence cant have as much storage there.
I've spent a considerable amount of time searching the forums for a solution to this, so if this has been answered already, please forgive me.
