E-Learning

Submitted by nickj on June 17, 2007 - 9:24am

If you are looking at e-learning eXe is a nice little e-learning content generator which works rather well as a portable app. It is relatively new but is maturing very well and usuable without having any knowledge of the underlying API or XML manifests.

It will export in a few formats (SCORM 1.2, IMS content package, HTML, plain text and i-pod notes) which makes the modules created quite flexible. It is also very good at reusing 'modules' so you can export or import pre-built chunks of content.

Getting rid of IE and OE all together?

BigFNDeal's picture

I am curious as to the possibility of completely removing all traces of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express from Windows now that I am 100% using Portable Firefox and Portable Thunderbird. I am avid user of nLite and was thinking I could completely remove both programs from the install now. The caveat to that would be if either of the above programs still need some of the functionality of IE or OE to work. I mean I would doubt it, but I suppose it would be possible. Normally some shred of IE is left because of Autoupdates, but that is now taken care of by Windiz.

Advocacy/support images?

Submitted by FlintZA on June 14, 2007 - 11:13am

Hi, I've been using PortableApps for a couple of months now and wanted to add advocacy buttons (similar to the one for Firefox 2 at the bottom of these forums) to my email signature and blog and couldn't find one anywhere. The closest I could get was a simple rectangular image that someone obviously just cropped from the PortableApps site's banner.
Has anyone made any other images for that purpose? Specifically something close in shape and size to the FF one?

PA Themes

Submitted by Moeshun on June 13, 2007 - 11:57am

Looking forward to more creative Themes for the PA menu. Have customized a couple for my own use via Photoshop. Would like the ability to change menu text color if possible as it would give me more background color combination choices. Keep up the good work and thanks.

Why does it take 4:00 to log out?

Submitted by wheat on June 13, 2007 - 10:31am

This is my first post. Any help would be appreciated.

I use my Kingston USB drive with Portable Apps to run Thunderbird and Firefox.

I{ll use them for a few minutes. Then I have to leave so I quit all appliacations and the Portable Apps application. But I can{t eject the drive yet because data is being written back to the drive. The little LED on the drive blinks for 4 full minutes before Windows says it{s safe to remove it.

It seems like each time I use the drive, it takes a few seconds longer to quit.

Couple of noob questions.

Hi all,

firstly, thanks a million to the portable apps creator(s), fantastic tool which I can no longer live without Smile

My issues, are as follows:

* I have downloaded a couple of new portable app menu themes, how can i install these? I searched the files and located (under portable apps-portableappmenu-) an icons folder, however no theme folder....??

Newbie here, duck for cover.

Greetings all, just found this handy little package. Right darn clever too. But you don't seem to have many 'user' posts, just 'developer' types from what I've seen.

Finding it very handy as I'm a serious amateur photog and travel to Rally events. This lets me take my Apps with me, download from the camera, store and edit pix and email them via cyber cafes to websites and publishers. Added gimp for serious editing and it all fits onto a 30 gig laptop harddrive in a USB casing. Plenty of room for pix.
