Google Chrome

Submitted by wordpagebook on October 22, 2009 - 11:10am

Please permit me to make note that it is well known that "Google" is the greatest antithesis to privacy in the world today.
One of the main ideals of PortableApps is to protect user privacy, so it seems to be very bad news that this new browser has been added to the list of applications.
Anyone who is truly concerned about not being tracked and recorded should not use this or any Google program.

Error installing PAP on W7

Submitted by JCSullivan on October 22, 2009 - 5:37am

Running W7 and trying to install PortableApps.com_Suite_Setup_1.5.2_en into the Program Files directory but get error:

"Error opening file for writing:
Drive:/Program Files/Documents/Desktop.ini"

Installing in Public directory worked just fine.
Any comments or suggestions please. I've done a search here but can't seem to find anything.

Thanks

2x client - not "free software"

2x client
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/2x_client_portable

is there any precedent for the '2x client' on portableapps.com wrt the fact that it is not free (as in freedom) software?

does the '2x client' contain any significant features that are not available in another software package? it kind of appears to be a hook to get you to buy software.

thanks,
david

PortableApps Wiki

This seems to be a good idea that nobody has really tried to start yet.
Imagine...
That PortableApps.com had a wiki, that was informative, useful, and maybe even fun.
Now imagine...
That we could refer to the wiki in forum postings, instead of having to post an age-old topic.
Now...
Let's make that a reality!

But what about spam?
Only mods can give write access to the wiki, and to make the access fair, you need to post at least 4 useful posts to show that you know your stuff and that you can help... the wiki.

Google Chrome Operating System

The google chrome os is set to come out soon!!! Its open source and I was wondering if we could have this actually portable. I was wondering though if anyone knew if it would be possible to actually download the whole thing (not like google chrome portable, where you have to have a local install). Is there any license issues? Maybe we could get around it and portable-ize an *unofficial* version of it (from here: http://www.bestfreewaredownload.com/freeware/t-free-google-operating-sys...)

Since this is an add-on for an application, it won't get a full front-page announcement as with normal applications. But, now that the server issues have been fixed, Diashapes has been released!

Description: Diashapes is a small tool to download and install additional shapes (often called symbols or objects) into Dia Portable. It installs alongside your existing Dia Portable installation.

Download Details:
1.6MB download / 2.1MB installed

Download Managers

I'm just curious why people use download managers these days. Over the years I've used all manner of different ones that have come and gone. However, these days, the fact is, I find that I rarely need one (if at all), for several reasons:
