How good is this portable AV?

Submitted by night hawk on February 16, 2009 - 9:59pm

I found this free Anti-virus through a google search http://www.mxone.net/en/ and was wondering if anyone has ever heard of it here and uses it to protect their flash drive.

I think at least one difference from something like ClamWin portable is this runs in real time detecting changes as they occur, so you could catch a virus loading on to your flash drive right away.

So any opinions of this AV? Does it look safe to use?

Thanks.

No clean up of temporary files

Submitted by quackstar on February 16, 2009 - 2:18pm

Don't exactly know where to put this, so its going here.

Looking through the temp folder one day, i found various combination of folders like nsq2EB.tmp. Shouldn't part of the cleanup of portable programs remove the files it created in the temporary folder?

Cmon, its portable, meaning leaving NO traces on the computer. If an admin or someone else with elevated privliges looks at your temp folder, they have a nice long list of portable programs you used.

Portable Apps broke during a backup.

Submitted by suckrpnch on February 13, 2009 - 3:07pm

I chatted about this earlier, but papps broke pretty good during a back up last night. I set the backup in motion and when I came in this morning, it said it had finished and was complete.

But the drive wouldn't allow me to access anything. It showed up as zero size and would run Chkdsk. When I ejected the drive and put it back in, it would prompt for autorun, but then would ask what program to use to open the file. It shows no files on it whatsoever.

I'm working on adding the ability to more easily quote what others have posted in the forums. It'll probably be implemented as an add-on allowing you to click a "Quote" button below a user's post. But appearance-wise, it'll look like:

John T. Haller I heard that a number of people like quotes in forums and things like that. Do you like the ability to do pretty quotes like this?

This is accomplished using the following code in the post:

exFAT released for winXP !!

Submitted by RMB Fixed on February 12, 2009 - 2:31pm

Great news for Flash-drive users, exFAT is now also available for XP ..

I highly recommend you install the hotfix and test exFAT .
Performance is excellent, file-system overhead negligible .
If you set the cluster-size to the same as your devices block-size it
outperforms all other generally available file-systems ..

The exFAT file system incorporates several improvements over FAT32. However, it keeps the simplicity of FAT-based file systems. These improvements include the following key advances:

* Support for very large files and storage devices
