Just Amazing

Submitted by robin_tropper on August 20, 2008 - 10:05am

Just a comment (no guest book?) to say Portable Apps is absolutely amazing. I'm a software engineer and Teaching Assistant at University of Ottawa.
I not only move between computers but also between operating systems between them. PortableApps and much of its contained software (didn't test everything) works beautifully with Wine in Ubuntu 8.4.
This really makes my life easier for e-mail, bookmarks and a plethora of application configurations. Toucan is the greates synchronizer I've seen yet (tried a dozen).
Keep up the amazing work!

This site http://www.torproject.org/download.html.en, is illegal distributing a version of our Portable Firefox, with it's Package found here http://www.torproject.org/torbrowser/index.html.en

Because of the Mozilla copyright and the copyrights of portableapps.com They should not be allowed to Distribute Portable Firefox without the specific permission from Mozilla, which I doubt they have, should They have I, my mistake.

It has our complete portable Firefox, launcher, Help files and source, which even includes Firefox's license.

Run portable apps in Linux

Submitted by Niscrome on August 19, 2008 - 3:54pm

Is there another way other than using wine to run my portable apps in linux?

I am a student and the computer labs here run windows xp and I run linux at home (dual boot. Possibly install linux soon).

What I am looking for is a possible portable emulator that runs window base portable apps on linux computers! I hope I make sense!

Portable Internet utils for locating the fastest sites

Submitted by John Wayne Goodin on August 19, 2008 - 2:30pm

Does anyone know of a portable app that can discover what links on a web page contain download mirrors and test the speed of each?

I often downland huge DVD ISO's of Open Source projects.

For example I am currently downloading Knoppix DVD v5.3.1 and it is about 4241 MB.
I'm downloading it via FDM Portable v2.6 BETA Build 792. At 12 sections at 173 KB/s

How to rename my portable drive

Submitted by natedog55902 on August 19, 2008 - 1:45pm

I recently downloaded PortableApps, and noticed that my drive was renamed PortableApps.com . I want it to be called USBDRIVE. I changed the label in the autorun file. The file now reads:

[Autorun]
Open=StartPortableApps.exe
Action=Start PortableApps.com
Icon=StartPortableApps.exe
Label=USBDRIVE

The drive is still called PortableApps.com. I tried renaming the drive in the application (lower left corner) but the drive name still remains unchanged. What am I doing wrong? I appreciate any help.

in my post https://portableapps.com/node/14282

i posted a link to a program i thought could be a good idea to have converted into a PA version.

this is what was said when i checked it today.

[link to site hosting illegal software removed by moderator JTH]

does this mean that the site that i referred to was blocked from others seeing it.

if so y it was only a suggestion of an app that was a good one and that could be converted into a PA?

Will I wreck my PC by installing twice?

Submitted by vanityfair on August 18, 2008 - 4:17am

About 6 months ago I installed apache v 2.2. It is running a number of services on my windows xp PC. Last week I installed PHP on this same PC. Since then I can't get PHP to work; it puts all the formatting in my browser. I have been advised on another forum to download the package provided here as a better way of getting php to work. Otherwise, I'm told, I have to set the config files for php to get the browser stuff right and being a computer idiot I have not got a clue about that.

I need to learn PHP as part of my internet studies.
