When I shut down my U3 drive, the USB drive is ready to remove in a very short time, just a few seconds. When I use the same drive with Portable Apps, the drive will often read/write for up to a minute and a half before it is ready to remove. The difference seems to be Firefox as the U3 uses 1.5 and Portable Apps uses 2.0.

Is there something else I should be doing? The drive seems to be deleting cache files, while for some reason, the U3 version does not seem to do this.

Sorry I am new here. I am trying to make a portable version of Thunderbird in a new language that doesn't seem to have been translated. How does one do that? What files do I need to get translated? If I get it translated, where would I post it for others to use? Thanks.

I'm sure there must be someone out there that can help me out....!!

1. Using my laptop, I installed PortableApps suite to mu USB. Worked like a charm - except there are no icons visible for ANY programs I install, or any that are pre-installed (the files all load OK, though). Also, the links to documents, music, etc on the right hand side do not work - nothing opens when I click on them.
I have tried this with the full, lite and base installations but it's the same for all of them.

The rules are:
- Not proprietary (u3)
- at least legal freeware or open source
- English

I searched briefly on this topic and found nothing.

Whenever I install a portable app from this site, the first thing I always do is edit the INI file and disable the splash screen. This has gotten tedious after having used these apps for nearly a year, and having installed them over and over on various computers.

I was just wondering if there are nice banner thingys available i could use to set up a link to PA on my homepage.

There is a brilliant site called Abandonia. This site contains famous and classic games that were made ages ago (back in my time ^_^) and are absolutely free.

Some are not, but you will know about them when you find no link to that game to download.

Anyway... most of these games require DosBOX to play them, but a couple of them are compatible to play on XP. Some games like MDK and Turok are available to play.

I have the following apps running from Portable Apps and they seem to work well
Thought I would share (maybe there should be a link to other Apps not hosted here)

Anywayz they are:
Notepadd++ (Can't remember where I got the portable version but it's version 3.9:-/)
uTorrent
Skype (Which is portable already, just needs parameters)
YamiPod (for iPods)

To make uTorrent work Portable (don't know HOW portable it is, dunno if there is any registry calls)
Download the uTorrent EXE and place it in "uTorrentPortable" Directory

So after a mishap a long ago with my USB drive (the WD 6gb Portable HD), my USB adapter was quite tenuous. Well 6 months later while attempting to remove it from the USB port, it finally snapped off.

After I had ordered a new one (they can be found significantly cheaper now), I decided to open the little drive up. Inside was a 6 GB CF+ Type II Microdrive. I promptly thought... "well the drive should still be good, it was just the USB adapter that was broken".
