My apology to the moderator/s

Submitted by bryanseecrets on December 4, 2006 - 11:17am

I apologize for my 3 posts which you deemed as self-promotion.

I am mistaken because I saw a link to a closed-source application. I admit I did not read your forum rules when I register.

It is my mistake and I am man enough to admit that I was wrong.

You may delete my posts which breached your rules.

For whatever its worth, I was trying to promote an individual’s right to privacy (Article12, U.N. Declaration of Human Rights) without sacrificing some non-altruistic interests.

Since most internet users do not know that all e-mails are archived (in perpetuity), I thought my app may be a pretty good idea to counter this alarming trend.

[Self Promotion] Live Apps CD

Submitted by gsix14 on December 3, 2006 - 9:10am

I hope this isn't against Forum Guidelines, I opologise if it is.

A few weeks ago I had some free time and put together a CD of software along the lines of The Open CD, but with the aim of the applications running from the CD so that people can try them out and then allowing installation of the programs from the CD. I used the live versions of a number of John's apps to do this.

The CD includes descriptions and screenshots of each program and extras like manuals etc. All the software is Open Source except IrfanView, which I got permission from the Author to include.

If you're interested you can see more and download the CD image from

[Self Promotion] Portable Secure E-mail App

Submitted by bryanseecrets on December 3, 2006 - 1:19am

[I posted this in the Off-Topic by mistake. Please accept my apologies]

I have a portable secure e-mail application for WinXP platforms.

This application is free for personal use and requires a simple registration.

It uses RSA 8192 bits and AES 256 bits encryption and all secure e-mails are automatically signed.

It supports all types of POP3 accounts and web-mail as well.

More info can be found from

Applications not working after a re-install?

Submitted by slvrldy17 on December 2, 2006 - 7:23pm

After finding out that the remove applications routine didn't work to remove the remains of my attempts to install Foxit Reader - error message of "in use by another user or application - try again later" I ended up reformatting my portable hard drive to start over from scratch - it is set up in FAT32 Format - and re-installing the Lite Suite - and niether Gaim nor Clamwin will start or run after this was done. Gaim is no loss as far as I'm concerned - but the Clamwin would be nice to have working - I'm curious as to what is going on here - is this a known bug or something new? I'm just about ready to go back to using the U3 and giving up on the portable suite- at least the U3 stuff works more or less reliably.

md5 problem

Submitted by Hearaoi on December 1, 2006 - 1:03am

Moments ago, I downloaded Standard edition twice; twice because the md5 did not check out; both md5's were the same. The size of the download is consistent with Standard, but the md5 is the published md5 for the Light version.

Not as ''Portable'' as I thought (aka...Registry Problems)

Submitted by wingmanjd on November 30, 2006 - 7:40pm

I recently stumbled across registry settings that were left behind by my various portable apps (located on my external Seagate e:\)!!!

This caused me no little concern since I use them daily at a location on a machine that I really would prefer to leave no trace behind. Why is this occurring?

To repeat my findings, open your registry editor (Start-Run-regedit). Figure out which letter your external drive is registering as and run a search within the editor (Ctrl+F) and type "driveletter:\" obviously replacing the text of driveletter with whatever it happens to be.
I guarantee you'll be surprised what pathways and stuff is left behind.

Icons on USB-Drive

Submitted by jakov on November 30, 2006 - 1:01pm

Hello!

I was wondering how the PortableAppsSuiteBase manages to display the .ico-files for the folder icon on my USB.

While F is my USB:
F:\PortableAppsSuiteBase\Documents\Desktop.ini
contains:

[.ShellClassInfo]
InfoTip=Contains letters, reports, and other documents and files.
IconFile=..\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\Icons\folder-documents.ico
IconIndex=0

Even when using the .ico-files inside the PortableAppsSuiteBase folder it doesnt work for my folders. The same thing when adressing even to the PortableAppsSuiteBase folder.

Nevertheless everything works fine (just alike if it was on the hrad disk) as long as I' working inside the PortableAppsSuiteBase folder and use copies or renames of the predefined folders.
