Portable Java Apps

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on December 9, 2005 - 5:44pm

I use several Java-executable apps on my USB thumb-drive. These should not require additional development (but this seemed the best forum anyway Wink

PLCash.jar - a personal finance program
JTides.jar - a tides calculator
SatFinder.jar - a satellite finder (for television, hams, etc)

All the above can be found at http://www.arachnoid.com. Be sure to read the developer's statement about what he calls "CareWare".

Thank You.

Encryption for my thumb drive

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on December 9, 2005 - 4:41pm

Now that i have all of this personal data on my portable drive i would like to know if anyone is using any kind of software that will encrypt or password protect the data on it.

ive seen some tools that will encrypt the entire drive, but you couldnt use the drive on any other machine that has the source software installed on it to de crypt it.

i would like something that can run on the thumb drive that will always prompt for a password after you put the drive in and even timeout if no activity is detected incase you leave your drive in the computer.

any suggestions?

If you notice anything odd on the site... something not working as expected, drop a note here. I've already:

- Turned off the preview requirement for forum posts
- Fixed forum post new-line parsing
- Fixed some typos (I tend to make quite a few)

Thanks!

Before posting a Portable App request...

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on December 9, 2005 - 2:05pm

John,

Before posting to the Request an App forum, I would like to ask about something you wrote in the Portable Firefox 1.5 announcement email:
This website will act as a home to all the portable apps I've been working on for the past year and a half (plus the 3 that will be released within the next week).
What are the three apps you are planning to release soon?

Thanks,
QB

Hi,

i can't post with pFx, so i am using at the moment IE Sad

I see Add topic or Add Reply window only a second, then the whole page is just white! No boxes: title, fourms, body, ... - and the menu bar are gone. This happens a few times.

I can't make a line break, too. I am pressing return normaly and try to make a paragraph. But when i have presse submit button, the whole reply is floating!

I'd love to get some feedback on the new site. It went live about 1/2 an hour ago to coincide with the release of Portable Firefox 1.5. The apps directory is still being completed and there are bound to be a few bugs here and there, but I'd love to hear any comments, suggestions, praise or criticisms.

Thanks!
John
