Ability to use U3 Software with Portable Apps Menu

Submitted by BlackVoltage on November 27, 2006 - 8:21am

Hi,

I´m using an U3 SmartDisk USB-Stick ... nice thing and a few good tools which are not available at portableapps.com.

Nevertheless PortableApps.com seems much better to me. Firefox and Thunderbird Updates are available much faster.

It would be absoluteley great if it would be possible to use U3 Programs with the portable Apps Menu ... if that works I would delete the U3 Launcher from my Stick an use only PortableApps.com ... unfortunatley it does not work vice versa.

Greetings,
BlackVoltage

It would be nice if the following security/privacy/anonymity apps were given the 'portableapps.com' treatment;

JackBNymble 2.1.4 Panta-Reliable-Mod-2005-08-17 modified

Reliable 1.0.5 Panta-Reliable-Mod-2005-04-20 modified

PGP 6.5.8 (The CKT version)

Nautilus 1.7 (actually portable since it is a command line MS DOS app. An easy to use GUI would be nice).

Mixminion Type III remailer

Quicksilver email program.

please include a advanced editor for programmers: Notepad++

Submitted by timmichelsen on November 25, 2006 - 2:27pm

It would be perfect if you could include some advanced editors for mobile programmers:

* Notepad++ http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus
=> features: http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

It would then together with firefox, filezilla and xampp turn the suit in a ideal workspace for a travelling programmer or web designer!

Thank you!

Ok, I would like an installer for portable Putty. I know it is actually portable already, but how do I make it show up in that nifty start menu?

Disk Usage Monitor - detecting abandoned temp files

Submitted by LynnL on November 24, 2006 - 6:50pm

I don't have a tool to suggest, but for USB work it would be nice to have a tool which watched for CHANGE in the file count & size in various directories, such that one could be prewarned of problems.

For example, I just ran Open Office & edited a Calc file (loaded as the Portableapps.com bundle). Before, the OO directory held 2460 file in 357 directories with 171MB of data (but chewing up 228MB of space). After there were 2461 files ... hmm, where was the extra file created? Is it an abandoned temp file? Am I going to gain 1 file every time I run OO?

Second example, I just ran across a bug or incompatibility between FireFox and a USB-based virus scanner. This caused FireFox to create and abandon up to 2MB of temp files per hour. I noticed only because I had seen previously that FF consumed about 38MB of disk space ... and later I saw it was 61MB so investigated.

Hi,
I would like to see IrfanView on my portableapps. It's a small but a very functional viewer/edior for pictures, but also a movie/mp3 player... and yes, it is a freeware but I don't know if it has an open source???

The web site is http://www.irfanview.com/

Some IrfanView features:

* Many supported file formats (click here the list of formats)
* Multi language support
* Thumbnail/preview option
* Slideshow (save slideshow as EXE/SCR or burn it to CD)
* Show EXIF/IPTC/Comment text in Slideshow/Fullscreen etc.
* Support for Adobe Photoshop Filters
* Fast directory view (moving through directory)
