Just A question bout virtuall desktop like aston shell

Submitted by geoffgordon on June 16, 2007 - 1:49am

would it be possible to have a "virtual desktop" that could virtually reproduce a full GUI from the flash drive complete with backgrounds and themes and therefore no longer see the "host pc GUI" but a "portable pc GUI"
yes i know it has been discussed before but i would like to see a complete gui interface there are a few on the market that are comercially avail but none that are truly portable i want one that ALL data is stored on a usb flash/hdd (i have a 160gig usb hdd so size is not an issue) but not an os that requires boot/admin privalages.

Firefox Safe Mode

Submitted by bobsch on June 15, 2007 - 10:52pm

One of the attendees at a PC Workshop had a problem while running Firefox. I use my portable hard drive to run Firefox on PCs at the school which hosts the workshop and I wanted to show him how to run Firefox in Safe Mode. I couldn't see any way to do this. It would be handy to be able to do this with Portable Firefox.

Portable Opera (already exists?)

Submitted by JTAN on June 15, 2007 - 4:37pm

Opera is a web browser much like Firefox, but with some better features.

Opera@USB 9.21 exists here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/Internet/Browsers/Windows-Portable-Applications-OperaUSB.shtml

Can we get this added to the PortableApps website at least if not the Suite as well? (I didn't create it but I do use Opera and prefer it to Firefox)

Good Truecrypt news

Submitted by cde on June 14, 2007 - 1:34pm

I thought I would post here since people often ask about Truecrypt...

http://sourceforge.net/projects/tcexplorer/
[link changed to actual homepage by moderator JTH]

Someone has made a GUI for a tool I never knew existed (http://forums.truecrypt.org/viewtopic.php?t=3817&start=98), which seems to provide the kind of functionality I have suggested before as an alternative to drive mounting - since a TrueCrypt volume is just a file, why can't we just edit it using some kind of TC-literate file browser?

Well, now we can.

VisualBoyAdvance

Yeh!
I'm a bit of gamer!
And I was wondering if possibly you could get a VisualBoyAdvance PortableApp happening!

Its not a bad program, one you can finally add to your emulator list!
I'd really like to see it as a PortableApp

Its a free licence, well there is none.
And it already runs portably, all you need to do is modify it for PortableApps.

Portable Windows User Accounts (Network Emulation?)

Submitted by the.ashton on June 13, 2007 - 9:51pm

It would be great to have, if there could be a network emulation from a USB when windows boots up it could log in to the account and all the settings would be there. It could be compable with many windows and different saved settings for each OS, and you could just put portable appps in the user folder, with them as the default program.

Wallpaper Swapper (like U3)

Submitted by Zinfeinhaggen on June 13, 2007 - 4:55pm

Yeah wallpaper swapper like they have on the U3 system its rly cool all you need is a wallpaper and rename it wallpaper.bmp and it automatically switches the wallpaper every time you start the menu (when you insert your flash drive)I would really like to see this because i do not want to go out and buy a U3 preloaded flash drive because 1: my current drive is pretty good and 2: im broke. the program can be found here on the U3 download directory:
