How about an ebay bid watch program?
Would really love to see if someone could come out with a portable version of R (see http://www.r-project.org). R is one of the nicer free scientific computing environments out there. Its fast enough and has sufficiently simple syntax to be used as a calculator as well.
BTW, love Portable Firefox.

hello portable app's guru's!
i have no idea if there is a tool out there that can do this but
How about CD/dvd burner/ cloner/ back up utility portable app ?
i have modified some older windows apps that use .ini files to run from a USB drive and they work ok - but some thing more modern and robust would be nice
All the obvious tasks would make a portable app very attractive like:
* Data CD/DVD – bootable disks Support for .bin .cue , .ISO ect ..
* Music CD - Burn from mp3 Play Lists ect..
* ISO CD/DVD
* Cd/DVD Cloner
* Backup. back up that USB drive!
* Video Converters.
i have found this app really useful for downloading certain file types from websites as it doesnt take a load of right clicking to use it which is normally a slow process. it gives you a thumbnail view of images and view of the files then you just select the ones you want to download and it does the rest. it queues them up to be downloaded to a selected directory and you can limit the number of downloads allowed at one time as well as the searches and such. any possible way of making it portable.
I did a search of the forums and didn't find anything directly pertaining to this, so I'm creating a new thread. Now that we have Portable ClamWin for anti-virus, what about an anti-spyware program? That would make my portable maintenance suite complete. I often have to scan my cousin's computer for viruses and spyware, and a portable anti-spyware program would make things so much easier.
The first portable app that I ever used is HAPEdit (HTML, ASP, PHP Editor). This is freeware written by someone in France, but it is not open source.
I have no affiliation to this product other than the fact that I use it. It supports more than just HTML, ASP, and PHP. It also support javascript files, css, more. This really is free, without adware, malware, nag screens, etc. I've used it for more than a year and it continues to be my default php site editor.
I was thinking that this is something that you may wish to add to the editor section of the site. You can find the application at:
I recently has discovered an opensource music player called Songbird. I would really like to see it become portable.
Anybody know where I can find a protable version?
I was wondering if anyone was developing or knew if it was possible to have an app that would require a password when you plug in any usb drive that contains your portable apps. I am using PStart and it is a good menu based option, but is anyone developing a menu started from an auto run.inf file that you can list your apps on that pops up when the computer starts your usb portable drive. Just some ideas I think would be useful to alot of people. I have a Lexar 1 gb drive that uses secure login, but I am not sure if the drive is formated to us it or if something like that can just be loaded on any usb drive?
Eclipse is an SDK for Java. Though I doubt the Java VM itself will ever be portable, Eclipse even now needs no installation. I was thinking that the launcher would find a Java installation on the local machine and add it to the command line argument (Eclipse needs to know where Java is or it will refuse to open). It would work on any Windows machine with Java installed.
