SoulSeek

Submitted by maccar on April 3, 2006 - 8:42am

Soulseek(tm) is a unique ad-free, spyware free, and just plain free file sharing application.

http://www.slsknet.org/

I'm told it needs a registry entry:
because slsk uses a current user reg key to look for where the cfg files are. if the computer you are using doesn't have that reg key you'll get an error about not being installed correctly.

Is there a way around it?

Java

It sure would be nice to have Java Runtime and/or a Java plugin for Portable Firefox, especially for people who travel a lot (like me), and have to use Internet cafes. They rarely have it installed in the places I've gone to

Programmers Notepad

Submitted by PrinceTimothy on March 30, 2006 - 6:23pm

I have seen this program called Programmers Notepad, it is a great program however i would like to get it to be portable because its the best, lightweight programming/HTML/batch editor i have seen yet, it has full syntax hylighting and is very small in comparasin to most editors (it even supposrts UNIX text files, on windows). The thing is i need a way to get the seetings and store them to a file and have them loaded everytime the program starts as to make it fully portable. Would anyone be able to do it and if they won't then please share the knowledge so i could?

BibusBiblio

Submitted by laurie on March 29, 2006 - 8:02am

Bibus-Biblio is an excellent opensource bibliography program (http://bibus-biblio.sourceforge.net/) which can run from a usb key. It works very well from the usb but does leave stuff behind in the registry. It would be great to be able to use this in a truly portable way without the registry. It also works well inserting citations into OOo or MsWord but would be even better if it would work with portable OOo on the usb.

Songbird!

Submitted by TKT97054 on March 29, 2006 - 4:34am

I recently read about this new program called Songbird. (Well, its new to me.)

Basically this program is based upon the Firefox Engine, but with a built in MP3 player included. When this program goes onto a site with links to MP3 files, the MP3 player boots up and lets you play the links on it.

This is an open source program. So I was wondering if you could turn it portable guys?

Here is the link Songbird Website.

Thanks.

Password Manager

Submitted by wsm23 on March 28, 2006 - 9:36pm

I have tried Roboform and Signup Shield, both U3 versions.

I need more than the free 10 logins that they offer.

I like the interface on both.

I have looked at other password managers but the others I have run into are more
secure storage and/or copy and paste. Too many steps for me. I use a computer because I and a typical American. I am lazy.

I am using FF for some of my passwords, but I would like to keep that info more secure.

Any user friendly, open source Password Managers that you know of?
