Portable App Development

hello all, i was just woundering i have seen my uncle with this on his usb drive and i was woundering how you change document's music photo's and so on to what ever you wont them to be?

Not sure if any of you devs realized it, but certain cross-platform apps (e.g. The GIMP, GnuCash) will store settings to the Cygwin home directory (%home%) if the Cygwin DLL is in the path. These programs may not even store the info in %appdata%, favoring %home% exclusively.

I'm wanting to turn an app portable but i'm not sure what the process is. Do I edit parts of the source code and compile it, or use that portable app template or what. It shouldn't be too hard since this app only writes to Application Data and some log file in system32.

Hello, everyone!

I am new here on the forums, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good resources out there for learning NSIS. I know the very basics, but not enough to write full scripts, like for launchers. I have been trying to complete "Handbrake Portable" (The DVD ripper) in my spare time, which is mostly on the weekends. But I just don't know enough of NSIS to really get into it. So does anyone have any feedback on the idea of a portable version of Handbrake? Or if it is even legal, for that matter, as it is a DVD ripper. Thanks in advance!

I noticed a lot of arguments over where to host portable programs, so I thought I might make a list:

• MediaFire (Restricted in certain places)
• RapidShare (Slow downloading process)
• Media-Convert (Hosting time limited to 90 days if not registered)
• Box.net (Said to have malicous code)
• FileCrunch (Uploading temporarily disabled)

i tried it out and unfortunately didnt show up in the autoplay...i think its because it has an autorun file it self so maybe its conflicting with the portable apps autorun..

i tried copying the codes in the autorun and paste it into the portableapps autorun...didnt work :/....

your theory??

Hi All,

Is there an easy way to modify PAM easily so that Documents is not assumed to be a superset of Music, Pictures, and Video?

I would like to back up my documents without backing up the music. I know I can use Toucan.
