Portable App Development

Is there a procedure used to vet the developers who create apps to download from here? Especially I am interested to know whether these apps are thoroughly checked for security against backdoors and such. What is to keep a nefarious person from creating a stealthy vulnerability into one of these programs, to which anyone downloading it would then fall victim? Thanks.

My first try with portable apps was a disaster because I had no idea that a group of such small programs would take so long to install. There was no way to stop when I needed to leave for class and doing so unfortunately broke the flash drive. On my second try I went to install a smaller list, and it still takes forever and now I today I was again in a situation where I had to let it finish or take it. I had to risk letting it get stolen and there was nothing I could do about it.

I have a program which I want to make portable. By installing, copying 4 files within a folder (MyApp) in the ProgramData directory windows 7, two configuration files are .txt extención, one of .chm help and other settings (Font.dat). I tried several ways but run not find the path of the files, I get the following message: C:\ProgramData\MyApp\AppData\Font.dat was not found.

As I can access these files?
Where is the mistake?

I am facing a problem with Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition, v38.0 or v38.0.1 (or ...), because I can't start this portable app in my machine, Dell Precision T3610, with MS Windows 7 Professional.

I have a non-portable installation of Mozilla Firefox v38.0 in this machine. This non-portable app can to be started, without problems, in this machine.

But, Mozilla SeaMonkey, Portable Edition, v2.33.1, can to be started, without problems, in this machine, too.

I tried to make my first app portable. After creating proper help.html, appinfo.ini and icons, I tried adding a launcher with the Portableapps.com Launcher Generator.

Well, the launcher is generated and starts the correct .exe file, but in the wrong directory.

I mean this: Imagine these three files:
C:\out\launcher.exe
C:\out\MyCoolAppname\real.exe
C:\out\MyCoolAppname\some.ini

I belive this is the right place for this topic, if that's not the case please feel free to move it to the right place or notify me where should i place it, and i will do so.

Portable apps is a great tool for almost anybody, but has far has organization is concerned, it is not very intuitive.

i mean it has 300 or more applications, but (in my case i installed them all) when i try to search a specific apps, i get lost.

Hi there people. I downloaded an up to date copy of Xnview (portable) today.
An image viewer program. I put it on a flash drive. One of the settings I chose for it
was "do not delete to recycle bin" Of course now I am wondering where a deleted
xnview file will be placed (somewhere on flash drive). Maybe it just becomes free space?
If I could find the xnview setting I'm using, maybe I could specify a particular folder.

I am trying to set the documents folder in a launcher and am using %PortableApps.comDocuments%, the portable apps menu is a local install so the documents path is C:\users\UserName\Documents but the PortableApps.comDocuments variable returns C:\Documents which does not exist.

How is the variable derived?
