NSIS .bat java (bang)

Submitted by r0bis on September 12, 2007 - 6:03am

I am sure someone must have run into a similar problem before. I am putting Freemind (the beloved java mind map/tree structure organiser) on my PortableApps stick. Seeing how nice it is to work with the menu I am dead set on building a menu launcher with NSIS - after all I love the apps and the menu and I cringe every time I click through folders to launch my app. What happens is:

1) I put a copy of jawa into PortableApps\CommonFiles

Using Packman to compress exe files

Submitted by millarrp on September 11, 2007 - 11:29pm

I am planning on putting CDeX onto my thumb drive. Since CDeX is portable already (based on https://portableapps.com/node/1010) I'm entertaining the idea of compressing the exe to see if it would improve the performance while running from the thumb drive.

I was looking at different compression options and I stumbled across an open source compression tool call PackMan that is supposed to compress exe files. Since I've never heard of it before I was wondering if anybody else has used it and if it is any good.

Is NSIS capable of making GUIs for things other than installers?

Cause I was planning to make an nice GUI to a suite of apps commonly used in the development of portable applications (Regshot,NSIS Portable,XN Resource Editor PE, NotePad++ Portable [recompiled w/o the TMed crap]) Also I was planning to make an AutoIT Edition (AutoIT replacing NSIS Portable, 4 those who prefer AutoIT).

Also would it be better to have both AutoIT and NSIS Portable included under 1 download and one installer but have an option wether to install one or the other or both.

Registry: None.

PortableApps Requirements

Submitted by whatznext28 on September 10, 2007 - 2:11pm

I am trying to find a place to start in order to run applications I as portable. How can you check to see if a program meets the PortableApps requirements as far as files or registry entries being left behind on the host computer? (i.e. software that checks to see if settings on a computer has been changed, etc.) Where do you look to see if files or registry entries are created on a host computer? Is there any software that can help to make a regular application portable? Thanks in advanced for any information you have that can lead me in the right direction.

Using the *nix way to improve PortableApps.com Services (Repositories, Apps Portabilizer for average user)

Submitted by José Pedro Arvela on September 9, 2007 - 3:28pm

I have a lot of ideas that can improve PortableApps.com Srevices (that are already great, by the way).

Resuming, is to provide a PortableApps.com Package Manager and repositories; and to portabilize the apps that can't be made portable in a way that wont confuse the average user.

For starting: a PortableApps.com repository with a matching up PortableApps.com Package Manager.
