Shareaza Beta1

Submitted by STORM on April 11, 2007 - 10:29pm

I'm new to the portable apps world (and this webby), and i must say i'm impressed.
I've ported my first working application, which i noticed there are many requests for.
I would like to post my portable Shareaza on this webby for testing, but i would like to first know.

1)Does me posting this application break any rules for the website?
2)What is the correct way to submit this appliaction?
3)Can the application be posted with rapidshare links for download?

etc etc.

Anyway, please reply and tell me the correct way to do things.

One Time Use Firefox

Submitted by Manock on April 6, 2007 - 10:31pm

Has John T or anyone else considered compiling a one time use Firefox which leaves no traces on the host machine, or on the portable device it is run from?

Opera has a one time use edition at www.kejut.com/operaportable but which still uses folders created in the local settings temp folder. Opera says all information is completely destroyed upon shutdown but there are doubters to this.

Portableapps Icon

Submitted by draco_the_red on April 6, 2007 - 12:04pm

I have a simple request to make about the icon that brings up the portableapps menu. Most of the time I cannot open it (a second time that is) since the... what was the name... active program icons (on the right hand side of the task bar)... something like that, since they are blocked off at my local library. They do not let anyone use those buttons, thus I cannot use portableapps, but once when it first starts.

I was hoping that it could be changed to the be a normal task bar icon, or at least letting the using set the option of how the program is to appear in the task bar.

How do you make...?

Portable Application Template 1.5 Suggestions

First let me say thanks SOOO much for making the 1.4 template, I have used it to create several launchers.
I have a few suggestions/requests for ver 1.5
Instead of copying the users current reg and folders etc to the usb drive, can they be renamed to file.ext.portbak, folder.portbak, and regkey.portbak or something similiar? this would be a lot faster than copying them to the flash drive.

This next request is a significant one I realize, but I think it would really be helpful to "intermediate" users who want to customize the script.

Simple idea could improve stealth or PAs

Since portable apps leave Prefetch data, would it be worth renaming the launchers to something generic such as "start.exe"? I am pretty sure that the prefetch files relate to the exe's name, not the app's "true" identity.

This could lead to host machines being clear of evidence that startportableapps.exe and all of its brothers & sisters were launched on a certain time/date, which is surely a good thing?

Or maybe I am missing something?

i am reworking some of my own software so that they work from the PortableApps menu.

problem: when you click a link on the menu, it does NOT change to the directory that contains the exe.

for example:

B:\PortableApps\StartPortableApps.exe
B:\PortableApps\Sample\Test.exe

if i manually change in to the sample folder and double click test.exe it runs FROM the sample folder.

but if i launch test.exe from the PortableApps Start Menu, it is NOT changing to the sample folder --- instead it is running from the B:\PortableApps\ folder, the same location as StartPortableApps.exe.
