Firefox Portable

Due to a power cut, the PC turned off and files weren't saved on my USB stick (using FF from within a TrueCrypt volume).
When I restarted, ScanDrive had to be run to fix some errors, now the POrtabkleApps menu loads but FF refuses to start, no error messages.
I tried reinstalling and then replacing the old folders but no luck so the problem must be in those files somewhere.
How do I keep the old data and do a reinstall? I have copied the folders: App, Other, and Data

Firefox 3 portable supposedly has more disk writes than firefox 2 portable and is very slow. Have they fixed this yet or is firefox 2 portable still better with less disk writes?

is it possible to run ffp with the main window hidden. i am developing a standalone (sorta) version of cooliris for windows. i want to hide the main window.

the latest update got interrupted. if i use the button at lunchpad now there is

G:\system\apps\3C9F7B3F-D55C-42cd-8537-B878518B73AF\Exec\firefox\xul.dll

is no windows file

????

i have many bookmarks and passwords, i would like to avoid reinstalling.

I followed the explanation provided in the "Portable edition support".

"Just copy the contents of that folder (except the cache directories) to the FirefoxPortable\Data\profile directory"

1) I did not find the cache directories
2) I get either FirefoxPortable\Data\settings OR FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\settings\profile Is the second directory the right one to copy my local settings?

"delete the file FirefoxPortableSettings.ini within the FirefoxPortable\Data\settings directory"
I got 2 directories with settings:

1) FirefoxPortable\Data\settings

There used to be a command line option for the *.paf.exe file to install silently, without user interaction. This was /S /destination=path\ - where path was the full path to the target directory (which would not be appended with "FirefoxPortable"). This isn't working any more since version 3.0.5 or so. Is this intentional? Otherwise, could the functionality be restored? (There was an old forum thread about this.)

Found a 1-2 year old article on wikiHow, updated it to 2009 specs, posting the wiki page for the community to add to at their discretion.

I installed Portable Apps a few weeks ago and i am finding it great, however i would like to install a few add-ons to portable Firefox but i am having difficultly in doing so.

When i install them, and restart Firefox nothing changes and their are no new add-ons in the list. I researched the problem on Google and followed some guides (copying profile and deleting some catch files) but this has not helped the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
