Why does Portable Firefox install plugins/extensions from the local computer?

Submitted by The_Architect on February 17, 2010 - 2:00am

currently, whenever I plug my USB with FF portable on it, it installs all the random plugins/extensions) from the computer i plugged it into.

things like realplayer and mcafee. which i REALLY don't want on firefox. worst yet, even when i uninstall hard-to-uninstall addons, they just reinstall the next time i plugin PFF.

i'm asking if this behavior is normal, and how do i STOP this from happening?

Using 2nd profile to only change proxy

Submitted by zogus on February 16, 2010 - 7:43pm

I have just found the new 2nd profile app and it sounds great. I downloaded it to try as I use FF in 3 locations which need 3 different proxy settings and I thought this might be a nice quick way of starting up FF already set up for the location without having to edit the proxy each time.

What I found, thought, was that everything in the 2nd profile was "reset", i.e. no addons, bookmarks etc. Is there a way that I can easily get them synchronised so that I only need to change the proxy setting?

How do I control the initial autocomplete sites?

Submitted by lwc on February 16, 2010 - 4:57am

When I say initial, it means it's there even with privacy mode enabled.

It's basically the mozilla sites plus this site. How can I view/edit this list?

When I look at the bookmarks, I see more than one portableapps.com pages. But the autocomplete list has just one portableapps.com page - the domain itself.

Thanks!

flash player 10 on system, but not on pap ff

Submitted by wolf99 on February 15, 2010 - 2:33pm

hey all

I have 2 installs of FF, one regular full clean version and a portable version that has all my addons for dev etc.

I have flash player 10 working ok in the full install. but I still get the adobe prompt to install if I use the portable version.

Have tried using the flash installer on the PA FF page but it gives me a script error when it trys to install. (downloaded ok)

I copied the plugins folder across fro#m the full to portable but still no joy...

Flash in FF3.6 doesn't work after OS upgrade

Submitted by foxcole on February 12, 2010 - 2:47pm

I've been using portable FF 3.6 since it was first released, running on Vista Home Premium, and all plugins and add-ons worked correctly.

But a couple of days ago I upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Home Premium, clean install (reformatted and started over). Now the Flash plugin doesn't appear to work, although NPSWF32.dll is there in the Data\Plugins folder.

I have not reinstalled Flash yet locally--I thought at first I wouldn't need to because I thought it was bundled with some other software. But to verify, I searched the hard drive for that dll and it's not there.

[Closed] FirefoxPortable2ndProfile works only with default paths

Submitted by Bart.S on February 12, 2010 - 8:49am

Meh, why hard-coding all the paths in a portable release. Paradox and not customizable Sad
Have a look at Diashapes Portable (not supported anymore, works with Dia 0.97 only) and Dia Portable. User could set custom install paths, settingsdirectory, appdirectory ... and with the proper ini-entries it just works. Always.

Oh, and there is a major bug:

Firefox 3.7 Alpha 1

Submitted by ksc3 on February 10, 2010 - 11:45pm

Dear Mr. Haller,

I just wanted to mention that the Firefox Portable (Minefield) 3.7 Alpha 1 download will no longer install because the Minefield has upgraded to FF 3.7 Alpha 2. It's not a big deal, but I just thought I would mention it.

Sincerely,
Kent Coley
