Session Restore

John,

I just "killed" a Firfox Portable RC3 session on purpose using the task manager.
When I started Firefox again it opened up all the tabs I had before. This is what this feature is supposed to do. But I wonder, might it not be a good idea to have this disabled by default in Firefox Portable to save "writes" to the flash drive. I know this is why disk cache and history are disabled. I assume that for Session Restore to work it must write the state of Firefox, all its windows and all its tabs to the drive so it can restore them. This, I assume happens over and over and over again.

Launcher download

Submitted by MoHaG on October 25, 2006 - 4:39am

I would like to update the launcher to the latest version, but I am unable to find a link to download only the launcher. There used to be a link to the latest launcher on the old site. Was it removed or am I missing it?

I would like to update my Portable Firefox to 2.0, so downloading the latest full package would be just a waste of (expensive) bandwidth. Also I can not use the automatic updating include with Firefox, since I'm runnig it from a network drive with very limited free space...

I'm currently using launcher 1.1.3.0, will there be any update issues?

firefox vs IE -- text proportion

Submitted by squeezebox on October 24, 2006 - 11:30am

I've enjoyed firefox, especially the portable version, for many reasons. However, firefox has trouble displaying text in correct proportion. I recently noticed that IE does not share this tendency.

Take a look at this screenshot to see what I mean:

Is there a workaround for this firefox characteristic? I'd love to keep enjoying its other benefits which outweigh IE but this one is a little annoying.

FYI my screen resolution is 1920X1200, and all text on the firefox window shown has been scrolled down to the minimum size allowable.

thanks for any suggestions

testing extensions on FirefoxPortable

Submitted by tnarik on October 23, 2006 - 5:52pm

I'm an extension developer and as I use several PCs I would really interested in being able to develop my extensions on a USB drive (which I otherwise use constantly). Right now I have the development version of my extensions on the USB drive and use a local installation of Firefox to test them.
I've been trying to install the extensions on FirefoxPortable (and previously on PortableFirefox) using the same method I use for testing: just create a file on the extensions folder, with the content being the path to the extension folder. That doesn't work on FirefoxPortable. Not with absolute paths, not with relative paths.
