Run Firefox from CD without copying files to the hard disk

Submitted by setdosa on December 11, 2007 - 11:14am

Hi,
I am using the Firefox portable for running our application directly off the CD. The proof of concept work fine except that because its running of a CDR it needs to have runLocally set to true. this means firefox copies the firefox folder which is like 25MB to the temp folder. As my application is not going to be changing any firefox properties or settings, i really dont meed it to run locally but the application doesnt let me do that ir I am running from a CD. Is there a way to prevent it or work around it?

Thanks,
Arun

Little white boxes driving me nuts...

Submitted by Crescco299 on December 10, 2007 - 2:47pm

Sorry for the not so technical subject, but I have no idea how to describe my problem. I don't believe I've done anything different over the past few days but all of a sudden, I'm getting these blank boxes appear when I mouse over objects/pictures. I know that this box is supposed to contain a file name, but I just can't see that information. I've viewed the same pages with IE and I don't have any problems.

Any ideas?

Variable home page - Live CD

Submitted by FirefoxRocks on December 8, 2007 - 4:51pm

I have a modified version of Firefox (colours changed on toolbars, menus removed, etc) that I would like to redistribute for educational purposes. It states so explicitly when you launch the software.

Everything is set and ready to go except for 1 little problem:

CD drive letters change on different computers. For example, it is D:\ at home, E:\ on my old system, and it could be F:\ or G:\ at school! I cannot make a D:\index.xhtml file as my home page because then what if the drive isn't called D:\?

newbie needs help with bookmarks on portable firefox

Submitted by panewbie on December 7, 2007 - 1:37pm

Hi all, i'm new to forums & portable apps but recently downloaded PFF onto a USB stick & thought i should get the same bookmarks launching regardless of what PC I use, but when I use a PC other than the one I installed PFF onto my USB I only get the default bookmarks. I've checked FirefoxPortable\Data\profile & my bookmarks are there but as IE icon (guess I must have imported them via IE), is this the problem? I'm not that technical so hope somebody can explain in simple terms. cheers

Extensions only working on home computer

Submitted by timtranslates on December 4, 2007 - 5:10am

Hi

A few weeks back my extensions stopped working on "foreign" (ie, not my own) computers. They just don't appear. This is quite annoying as I am a university lecturer and I show my students how to use many of the extensions, but I now have to switch to the local installation of Firefox because I can't access any of my extensions when running my Firefox Portable away from home. I also lose my spelling dictionaries (I only have access to US English when away from home). Any ideas? The extensions all seem to be installed on my portable hard drive.
