PFF and U3 PFF

Submitted by Bulldog on August 3, 2006 - 11:01am

Maybe these questions have been asked before, but not recently, at least not in the most recent 15 pages of Forum posts Wink

I currently run your PFF for U3 and NoBrainz (sorry) TB for U3 on my Kingston U3 USB drive. Both work fine, but I would like to try the 'straight' PFF and PTB (i.e., instead of "for U3" versions.)

1. Should I uninstall PFF for U3 and xBrainz TB for U3 before installing PFF and PTB?

2. Will the fact that these are not "for U3" versions cause any problems, either for U3 or PFF/PTB?

3. Anything special I need to know about installing PFF and PTB on a U3 USB drive?

how "portable" is "portable"?

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience moving an existing Portable Firefox installation folder from one USB device to another. I tried to copy an image of one USB drive to another, larger one. All of my other portable apps are completely happy on their new home drive (as I expected they would be), but Firefox is not.

When launched from the original thumb drive, everything is still OK. But on the new drive the migrated installation is "broken", even after repeated attempts and methodologies to copy it. The program seems to launch/run just fine, which is nice. But, none of the extensions are seen and the toolbars/buttons/options aren't set up like they are on the original drive.

Different behavior of mater password prompt with 1.5.0.5

Submitted by Team Loco on August 2, 2006 - 4:24pm

Background: I use the master password option to secure my portable firefox browser.

Previous to 1.5.0.5, I would launch the browser, the splash screen would appear, and then I would be prompted to enter my password before I could continue launching the browser, or use it at all.

Now with 1.5.0.5, I can launch the browser, and use it no problem *until* I come to a site where it tries to autofill my info. Then it prompts me with the dialog to enter my master password.

I personally like the previous behavior, because if I misplace my usb drive, I don't want someone to be able to look at my bookmarks or poke around in my extension to find usernames and/or email addresses.

Hello World - I'm a Noob

Hey guys,

I've been using Portable Firefox (PFF v 1.5.0.4) for a few months without a Local FF installed. Now, as we all know, Google launched its Google_Browser_Sync.xpi (GBSx) a few weeks ago. I wanted to experiment with it and decided to install a LOCAL copy of FF to test if my bookmarks would synchronize my PFF v 1.5.0.4. settings with the LOCAL install of FF v 1.5.0.4.

The installation of the local FF went OK. And it gave me the default GUI (If that is what you would call it on a browser) without any extensions. Now when I tried to download the GBSx, nothing would happen. This is not my specific concern as it is a Google issue.

How Make Sage CSS "Portable?"

Submitted by trimel on July 31, 2006 - 1:12pm

I use Portable Firefox Portable (we're all in transition, here, aren't we?) and the SAGE extension for my RSS reader. How can I make Sage's variable CSS reference "portable?" My CSS files are stored on my USB flash memory drive. The CSS option in Sage nails the chosen CSS file to the drive letter. Of course, the drive letter changes as the flash drive is moved from PC to PC, so the CSS reference is lost (incorrect) and SAGE reverts to its internal default "CSS." [By the way, I use PSTART as the portable launcher in case there's a variable path PSTART sets that would be useful here in solvi

FirefoxPortable not working from flash drive

Submitted by Angel Blue01 on July 29, 2006 - 4:59pm

I love PortableFirefox and use it heavily.

I was glad to see the new release. Smile

I ran the extractor setup from this Web site, and coped my 1.0.2 \profile folder from my flash drive to the new Data\profile folder. I updated my extensions and everything ran fine.

Then I copied the FirefoxPortable folder back to my flash drive (an A-data PD2-1G0) and tried running FirefoxPortable. The splash screen appears but nothign happened. I waited 5 minutes. Nothing happened.

Firefox.exe is running, but the program never loads. I killed firefox.exe in task manager. I tried again, and it loaded, but in safe mode -no extensions, no themes.

Problem updating to 1.5.0.5 (edit to add solution)

I've just comleted the update to my USB stick, but when I try top start the new app it tells me it appears to be read only, and then offers to copy it to the hard drive to run. I've checked for read only directories and files and found none. There is no lock on the USb stick, as thunderbird continues to receive mail OK.

So where do I start to look to get this to function correctly again?

Answer:
In my .ini file I had all the paths indicated with a "/". Changing them to a "\" resolved the issue. Strange however that when I allowed it to copy firefox to the hard drive(before the .ini file fix) it still found the bookmarks, etc.
