Portable vs instance already running

Submitted by FpXdZ86 on December 28, 2017 - 7:12am

I'm using Firefox Portable on Windows 10 and also have one version installed.

When I make D:\files\PortableApps\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\FirefoxPortable.exe the default program for http etc. I always get a message that already an instance is running if another window is already open.
(If I ignore the message and don't press enter and try to open the link again it is opening in the existing Firefox..)

[Fixed] Firefox Portable 57.0.2 leaves behind two empty folders

A new subdirectory of APPDATA\Mozilla\SystemExtensionsDev which causes the Mozilla directory to be left and a new Mozilla directory at LOCALLOW\Mozilla. Both directories are empty. This will be addressed in the next release.

You can test the upcoming version of the launcher here: Firefox Portable Launcher 2.1.1.

How to apply Flash Updates to Firefox (ESR) portable?

Submitted by pstein on December 12, 2017 - 7:38am

Assume Adobe releases a new Flash player update.

I download this update as exe file and start it (under Win7).

Unfortunately the player locates only non-portable Firefox installation (as seen in Registry).

How can I tell the FlashPlayer update package to update the Firefox (ESR) portable installation as well?

By cmdline?

Thx
Peter

Java plugin doesn't work in Firefox Portable

Submitted by slvs on December 11, 2017 - 10:45pm

I need to access a corporate application that has a web interface and a Java applet.

I read that Firefox 52 and later don't allow the Java plugin anymore. So I installed Firefox Portable 51.0.1 into C:\users\username\Downloads\Firefox_51.0.1_Portable\FirefoxPortable. Then I copied the FirefoxPortable.ini file from the Other\Source directory and put it in the same directory as FirefoxPortable.exe. I edited the file to have the following:

AllowMultipleInstances=true
AlwaysUse32Bit=true

57.0.2 always crashes upon exit

Every time I exit (window close, ALT+F4) Firefox Quantum, a few seconds later the crash reporter pops up. Nothing problematic about Firefox itself, just does this upon exiting. (Submitting the crash report always fails, too, so it's not worth bothering with.)

I just X out of the crash reporter and I haven't been worried about it, but thought I'd drop a note here.

Windows 10 Pro 1703 (work computer), 64-bit. Install path is default, and it's an upgrade. I've had Portable Firefox on my drive since I don't even know when.

Browser extension "Companion Apps" in FF Portable?

Submitted by saronno on December 6, 2017 - 1:49am

I'm running a browser extension (or should I say "add on"?) which requires the presence of a so called "companion app".
In a non-portable environment such an app has to be installed in the main OS, as well as the browser itself.

I'm wondering whether there is a way to "install" such an app inside the FF Portable's folder, in order to carry it around together with the browser, in a USB key or similar device.

PS. I searched, before posting, for similar questions but did not find any.
