Thunderbird Portable

Attachments

Submitted by belizebw on March 15, 2009 - 7:02pm

I have TBP 2.0.0.17. It seems that I only have 2 options when receiving attachments and that is to manually click toopen them or send them to a folder which I specify.

I'm used to Eudora for 12 years and it would automatically send the attachment to the folder I preset AND still allow me to open it at will.

Is there any way to do that with TBP 2.0.0.17

Swedish characters ÅÄÖ disappearing

Submitted by mr_bruce on March 11, 2009 - 5:30am

Hi,

After installing Thunderbird Portable I started loosing the swedish characters ÅÄÖ in the subject line of incoming emails.

I´ve also had recipients of my emails complaining that ÅÄÖ is replaced with weird statements like Å becomes "å".

Any idea what this might be?

In settings the character encodings are set to Western (8859-1). I think it is the same as when I had the regular Thunderbird. It might have been "Western Europe" but I cannot find this setting here.

ISO 8859-1 should be right I think.

Confusion Transferring TB Portable settings

Submitted by eltonbrad on March 5, 2009 - 6:13am

Hi all,

I'm a bit confused here as what I'm about to say. You see, I'd like to be able to transfer all my emails and settings from my local Thunderbird into Thunderbird Portable. I've read the section in Thunderbird Portable Support about transferring the settings, I've followed the directions to where to get my local Thunderbird settings (I use Windows XP at the moment, so it's under the Documents And Settings folder). I checked the instructions again and it said to copy the files into the Data/Profile directory within Thunderbird Portable, that's where I'm getting confused.

Oi pessoal, to aqui tentando ajudar novamente. Instalei o Thunderbird em inglês no meu pen-drive, criei uma nova conta de e-mail, gostei e decidi passar para o português. ThunderbirdPortableSettings.ini

Hi there!

I'm quite new to TB Portable core features, though I've been using it happily for months, launching it from a USB external hard disk.

Today I quitted TB Portable and immediately after I disconnected the USB cable.

Few minutes ago I reconnected the USB external hard disk and started TBP again.

The sad surprise was that TBP asked me to create new accounts (with the new account set up windows) as it forgot everything of the past usage and data.

Thunderbird S-L-O-W launch

Submitted by kchildress on March 3, 2009 - 12:58pm

Hi all, I've been using the potable version of Thunderbird on a flash drive for several months now. This morning when I tried to launch Thunderbird it took nearly a 1/2 hour to open up. Once it opened up I compacted the mailboxes. I also followed the advice of another post and found and deleted the MSF files. Unfortunately, neither fix has cured the problem. It still takes forever to open the program. Task Manager indicates that the program is loading nearly 120,000K of data into memory before the progarm will open. Any suggstions as to what the heck has happened and how to fix it.

Importing & syncing contacts including Outlook

Submitted by WiMax on February 28, 2009 - 9:27pm

Hi everyone!

Executive Summary:
This describes an efficient and effective means of importing contacts from Outlook and other email programs after the initial installation.

Description:
During a first time setup of TB, the auto import feature is quite intuitive. It should allow you to import mail, address book and settings. It may not import all contact data as some programs, such as Outlook, have more than the 35 data fields that TB is limited to.

The challenge becomes to try to import data after the first time setup. An effective solution is Plaxo - www.plaxo.com
