Supporting Mailto links if Thunderbird is already open

Submitted by Ellis L Miller on June 11, 2009 - 5:01am

I configured mailto links to go to Thunderbird Portable. This works fine if Thunderbird is closed. However if Thunderbird is already open, then I get an error message when clicking on an email link: Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system.

My registry settings for the mailto command --
Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command to:
Value: "r:\ThunderbirdPortable\ThunderbirdPortable.exe" "%1"

Detach of attachments generates absolute path

Submitted by gvant on June 10, 2009 - 4:48am

Hello,
I think I found an omission in the portable thunderbird version. When I do a "Detach" of a mail attachment, the attachment is saved correctly, but (even when I save it in a subdirectory of the portable thunderbird) the path in the mail is stored as an absolute path (e.g. U:\ThunderbirdPortable\Attachments\Filename.doc
When I want to read the mail/attachment on another computer, the attachment is not found by the mailer.

Brand new TB, want to populate Personal Address Book

Submitted by fergus on June 10, 2009 - 3:18am

Dear All,
I want to start a brand new TB on a new device but I would like to populate Personal Address Book with the contents of a correctly formatted tab-delimited text file. Using Import, whatever I try to do, all I can manage is a new named Address Book additional to Personal Address Book, while PAB remains empty, as does Collected Addresses. Any ideas? Thank you.

Escape characters for paths in NSIS

Submitted by nnewton on June 10, 2009 - 2:57am

Is this still an unresolvable issue with the NS installer?

https://portableapps.com/node/4530

I just installed the portable GPG and Enigmail and the path to my gpg.exe is being changed when I exit TB. The path for my TB includes a directory starting with a lowercase n, NSIS seems to turn this into some control character when it saves back to the "extensions.enigmail.agentPath" line in pref.js. Works fine with an uppercase N though.

folders getting new mail from message filters do not show new mail

Submitted by mydiskdrive on June 8, 2009 - 11:20am

i have a bunch of folders with filters sorting incoming mail into these folders.

the folders are not showing that there is new mail in them until i click on each one and it "builds file summary"

I think the problem has to do with switching from vista/win7 and xp. I first started using on xp and all is fine, then when i started switching from xp and vista I first noticed it happening. and now that i switch from win7 and xp I see it all the time.

has this been noticed by anyone else? is there a fix?

Profilübernahme, Folter für User

Submitted by zizherz on June 5, 2009 - 11:02am

SkypePortable macht solche Sachen z.B. selbst. Ach wie herrlich.........

Portable Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 doesn't find K-Meleon 1.5.3

Submitted by daanhoog on May 30, 2009 - 3:28am

Recently I switched from Firefox to K-Meleon as my default browser. And although K-Meleon is reported to Windows XP as my default browser, Portable Thunderbird doesn't open it when clicking on a hyperlink.

How can I let Portable Thunderbird know that it has to open K-Meleon? Both programs are not used 'portable'; I installed them on my hard disk into my desktop PC.

Thank you very much for your help, regards, Daniel

Please help: Thunderbird portable crashed & broken

Submitted by cmmehl on May 28, 2009 - 2:33am

Hello experts,

I had a computer crash and as a result, my thunderbird portable has suffered. When I start it, it offers me to set up an account. On the other hand, also given the size of the folders, all mail and so on still seem to be there. So I presume it must be my profile or so that is damaged / gone.
