TB Portable no longer default client after update to 2.0.0.22

Submitted by tmaibaum on June 30, 2009 - 7:25am

Hello,

not sure if this the right place for my question? If not, please point me in the right direction. Smile

I've been using TB Portable as my default client for a few years now. Provided that TB Portable was up and running, Windows recognized it as the default client for "mailto" links and sending documents out of applications such as MS Office.

Server Times Out

Submitted by rktompsett on June 25, 2009 - 7:28pm

When I use Thunderbird Portable to read or send email from my college networked computer on campus, I get Server timed out. Is this a problem I can fix local, or is it the college server? How do I correct the problem?

Auto updated by accident

Submitted by Rygir on June 23, 2009 - 11:45pm

Before I knew it, I got a popup from Thunderbird saying it had downloaded the new update and was going to install it either now, or "later". So I had no choice to cancel it... I clicked later and disabled the auto update in the options menu, but to no avail. At the next boot the updater worked and worked and... it launched just fine?

I shut it down, and started it again, and it worked just fine, again?

I tried my own local copy Thunderbird...and it worked fine... so that didn't get broken either...

Problems with 2 instances of Thunderbird (Portable and Local) at the same time

Submitted by androbi on June 22, 2009 - 10:37am

I have problems starting 2 instances of Thunderbird (PortableApps and Local) at the same time. I have to start the Portable version first and then the Local one. The other way around doesn't function. Then I get an error message: "There is already one instance of Thunderbird started. Please shut down all of the other TB-instances first before you start Thunderbird, Portable Edition." (translated from German by me)

account has padlock no mail available

Submitted by quirkly on June 16, 2009 - 10:39pm

Please how can I get rid of the padlock on my account? I need to know the file to delete to get rid of this.

I have a virus which is likely causing these problems but I can only read the emails once before the account is padlocked and then I can read none.

I am sorry if there an answer in the FAQs I did not find one.

Thanks
Quirkly

Supporting Mailto links if Thunderbird is already open

Submitted by Ellis L Miller on June 11, 2009 - 5:01am

I configured mailto links to go to Thunderbird Portable. This works fine if Thunderbird is closed. However if Thunderbird is already open, then I get an error message when clicking on an email link: Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system.

My registry settings for the mailto command --
Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command to:
Value: "r:\ThunderbirdPortable\ThunderbirdPortable.exe" "%1"

Detach of attachments generates absolute path

Submitted by gvant on June 10, 2009 - 4:48am

Hello,
I think I found an omission in the portable thunderbird version. When I do a "Detach" of a mail attachment, the attachment is saved correctly, but (even when I save it in a subdirectory of the portable thunderbird) the path in the mail is stored as an absolute path (e.g. U:\ThunderbirdPortable\Attachments\Filename.doc
When I want to read the mail/attachment on another computer, the attachment is not found by the mailer.
