solution to problem: IMAP mail disappears when changing computers

Submitted by lieszkol on September 21, 2006 - 5:16am

First, thank you for making thunderbird portable! There is a slight problem, though, when using IMAP servers. Thunderbird seems to write the absolute path to the mail folders in panacea.dat, in the profile directory. When the drive letter changes, Thunderbird gets confused, and after starting it again, all previous imap mail messages disappear. To fix this problem, the drive letter for the folders specified in panacea.dat must be updated before thunderbird is started. I've written a little batch file to do this, I wanted to share it, so I'm attaching it. However, I'm sure there would be a better way to do this.

Cant get a connection on Thunderbird Portable at work

Submitted by radioheadboy on September 20, 2006 - 3:40pm

I have set up a USB key with portable versions of Firefox and Thunderbird so I can use both at home and work and various other laptops I use. When I came to use Firefox at work, I had to put in Manual Proxy Configuration....a HTTP Proxy number and a port number that I found in IE on my work PC. I presume this is something to do with the work firewall.

Anyway, I am now trying to get Thunderbird to work on my work PC but it doesnt seem things to fill in as Firefox. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Change Drive Letter

Submitted by Jeff on September 20, 2006 - 9:24am

I am using Thuderbird Portable on a USB drive that I take with me on the road and use from multiple computers. The drive letter changes depending on what is in use already on the machine. Does this present any problems with TBP or should it be the same drive letter each time. If so, what do I need to modify to change the drive letter to something else as my original install was F and I would like to make it a less common one like P or something.

Thanks

Jeff

Thunderbird Layout Settings Troubleshooting

Submitted by acgrego on September 19, 2006 - 3:25pm

Hi,

I'm starting to use portable thunderbird and I have this question. The columns order can't be saved after I reorder them. They start always in natural order. I add new columns like size and account and when I restart TBP they are not there. The same is with message pane. I click F8 to hide it and when I restart TBP, there it is the message pane.

Why can´t TBP save the layout I made?

Thanks!

Sean

TBP 1.5.5 crash after closing

Submitted by ping79 on September 18, 2006 - 1:14pm

Hello,

i've "installed" TBP 1.5.5 then updated it to 1.5.7. Then I modified the configuration INI and allowed multiple instances. I can start it without any problems. When I close TBP i get following error. Does somebody have a solution. I think it has something to do with the multiple instance setting.

Thanks in advance

Full update hanging 1.5.0.5 to 1.5.0.7

Submitted by wsm23 on September 16, 2006 - 9:29am

TBP ver 1.5.0.5 PortableApps.com

Notified of Auto-Update.

TB incremental update failed. Then TB tried to do the full update. After 1hr. I had to shut down flash drive so I clicked hide update and then shut down TB and drive.

Restarted TB next time and ver is still 1.5.0.5 and the "Check for Updates" shows that the current update is paused and does not give any cancel or restart update options.

I know John will probably come out with a new version, but I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem or not.

losing e-mails ?

Submitted by cmk on September 16, 2006 - 8:51am

I have portable Thunderbird on a USB stick; Just now after typing in my password I see at the bottom of the screeen "downlaoding 1 of 1 message" then there's nothing in my inbox; this happened on at least three occasions in the past week. The other times I had one less message in my inbox than the download messgae indicated.

Am I losing messages or is Thunderbird incorrectly saying I have messages that aren't there?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Katie

Thunderbird will not launch after online update to 1.5.0.7

Submitted by srf21c on September 15, 2006 - 12:04pm

Got a notification today to upgrade to the latest version of Thunderbird 1.5.0.7. The update downloaded and then crashed while installing on the next launch. Now when I try to launch Portable Thunderbird the process runs for about 5-10 seconds and then just disappears, no error messages or anything. Renaming my thunderbird profile and trying to launch did not make any difference either.

Disk space setting does not seem to work

Submitted by linuxamp on September 15, 2006 - 7:49am

Disk space is an important issue, especially with portable apps. Thunderbird supports a disk space saving feature but it does not seem to be working in Thunderbird Portable.

Click
Tools -> account settings

Expand the "localfolders" tree in the left pane and click on "disk space"

I tried to enable "delete all but the last xx messages" but it does not work.
