Just wanted to let everyone know that the whole site has switched from using the Tango icon set under the CC-Attribution license to the Oxygen Icons set which is dual licensed under the GPL and CC-Attribution. This means that we can now use our main icon pack within applications and splash screens now. Plus the new category icons will be used for the default categories (aka folders) within the PortableApps.com Platform 2.0 - which will have a test release shortly.
The new icon set has a much more modern feel and better compliments the new site theme. Some icons were customized to fit what we need and are released under the same dual license (details here).
The PortableApps.com Menu's default theme will probably continue to use our folders modified from the NuoveXT icon sets. They better match Windows' folders than the flat blue ones used in Oxygen do.
Check out the new icons:
- App Directory - All the category and sub-category icons
- Forum - All the forum icons
- Page Icons - New artwork on the Development, Support, Support Chat, Newsletter & Contact Us pages
Hope you like our new look!
Cool stuff. They work well.
I like them very much. They look more 3d and glossy, the old ones looked kinda flat. Good!
Very cool. It was a nice surprise when I first logged on to the forums.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
Neat. They look better then the tangos.
Too many lonely hearts in the real world
Too many bridges you can burn
Too many tables you can't turn
Don't wanna live my life in the real world
They're really sharp.
One thing I'm surprised never caught on in modern computing is how the Commodore-Amiga did icons. Anyone use one of those? Not only was there no restriction on icon size (massive floppy icons for shareware disks rocked) but more importantly, the icons had two frames. The first was the display frame, what you saw when you loaded its folder. The second was the active frame, what you saw when you clicked on it (and it stayed 'active' until you clicked away). Real neat. I'd love to see that whole idea make a comeback in a future version of Windows or Linux.
