This page is mainly for me to note down ideas that I have, which will be mainly about the PortableApps.com Launcher, PortableApps.com Installer and similar related things (I can't help with the Platform yet so I won't try to offer suggestions). I'll continue to update this page as I develop code for my ideas and as I come up with more ideas. Feel free to comment on the ideas.
Hi guys. I've been saying I'll update this or that that. I'm making a post so people can correct me if I'm wrong or if I've forgotten anything.
lately, I've been making some userbars. And siding. And doing school. I emailed John about the PortableApps.com user bars, but it seems I shall have to hunt him in IRC. Or twitter him . . . .
K, for what you guys really care about.
Simpler way, with no launcher hacks:
Open GIMPPortable\App\gimp\etc\gtk-2.0\gtkrc
Open your desired theme, and copy the text within.
Highlight style "msw-default" to the end of the file.
Paste in the code you got from the other theme file.
If you need a engine, copy it to GIMPPortable\App\gimp\lib\gtk-2.0\2.10.0\engines. Note that the 2.10.0 may be a different (depending on which version of the gimp you are using.
Done!
Hey guys, it's me... that guy. I know it's been a while. I've literally abandoned the forums over the past year, not out of spite or anything of course.
Here's my non-chronological story:
Back (oh, man, what was it...?) a good three years ago come this January / Febuary I stumbled upon PortableApps.com. Just like many of you, I grew up running Windows machines. I was just an average kid who spent too much time on the computer.
Hey guys,
Long time, no see, eh? I must say, it has certainly been quite a while since I've been on the forums or even doing anything PA related. So, on that note, it's nice to see you all again. Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated.
While I've been gone I've been doing a variety of things, such as school stuff and working on other projects.
I see that in the meantime quite a bit of stuff has happened, so congratulations on winning in the SF Community Choice awards! There are ~20 pages on the tracker of unread posts, so I'll be taking a look at those at some point.
We're switching the Menu from Delphi at some time, it's best if we do it soon, before it becomes too big a job, and also to get into the cross-platform market quickly; currently the best-looking options are C++/wxWidgets and PHP/PHP-GTK. (For launchers as well as the whole Platform.)
I am disappointed to say that Toucan will not use the Volume Snapshot Service in a future version. The idea behind VSS is that it allows you to copy files which are in use, for example an Outlook .pst file whilst Outlook is open. As there were a number of requests for this feature, and indeed I too thought it would be useful I have had it on the todo list for a while, and indeed I intended to have it added for version 2.1.3 which is now in pre-release here.
