Opening File Associations

Hi Guys,

I had a question, with the new Portable Fire Fox, is there a way to set portably which programs will open my torrents? for example when on a site the program always asks me. I set it to never ask again but now it keeps on asking me to show it the application exe. Is there a file I can manually change to automatically select things like foxit pdf reader and utorrent for torrents?

The next questions I have, is there a file viewing extension for Firefox? this is so that I can quickly look into my folders to check the current version of file I am downloading?

Migrating from normal Portable FF 1.5.0.2 to the U3 version?

Submitted by MrChris on April 26, 2006 - 6:24pm

I currently have Portable FF 1.5.0.2 on my normal 2GB non-u3 drive. I now have a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro U3 and have downloaded/installed the u3 version of FF from u3.com but how can I migrate all my extensions from the current version to the U3 version? Or is it just best to restall all my extensions? Im not new to this stuff but I am new to this U3 thing.

Thanks,

MrChris

Running a PDF viewing in Portable Firefox

Submitted by skoink on April 24, 2006 - 9:32pm

Hi all,

I'm sure I'm not thet first one who's wanted some sort of PDF solution from Portable Firefox, so I figured I'd post what I came up with.

1) I downloaded Foxit, the portable PDF reader, and dropped it in PortableFirefox\firefox.

2) In Firefox, I went to the download options, chose 'plug-ins', and disabled the PDF mime-type.

3) After I'd done this, I opened a PDF on the web, and told it to open using Foxit (by pointing it at the Foxit location), and to remember the preference.

4) Finally, I edited PortableFirefox\profile\Mimetypes, and I removed the path for the Foxit executable, so that the part pertaining to the Foxit reader read as follows:

1.5.0.2 Upgrade on Flash Drive Messed Up Firefox Hard Drive Uninstall

Submitted by dauge on April 24, 2006 - 9:04pm

Upgraded PFF to 1.5.0.2. on flash drive. Had no problem.

Needed to uninstall regular FF from my hard drive. Went to uninstall and the uninstaller was pointing to my flash drive and wouldn't do anything, got an error. This was apparently caused by the install on the flash drive.

Only way I could make uninstall on hard drive version work was to reinstall ff on hard drive and then do an uninstall.

What did I do wrong?

thx

I have problems with address field and open location (Ctrl + L) function in
version 1.5.0.2 (but not in version 1.0.7). Both functions do not react. Of course I can write a new address but then nothing happen a new site is not opening.
I am grateful for explanations or comments!

Portable browsintg + privacy = feasible?

Submitted by clue-less on April 19, 2006 - 4:27pm

I'm using portable Firefox and am pretty happy with it.
Its privacy/security settings might not be perfect, but achieve the goal of leaving less information on all the PCs I'd be using.
With that taken care of, can there be solution for privacy on the server side?

For example, it's no secret sites in general, especially the ones requiring the logon collect vast amounts of information, with times and IPs of logins included.
Now, I would want to have control over which IP is shown, for example the same one (possibly bogus) all the time.

Is that something achievable at all? Already exi

Errrrr, anyone else have this problem?

Well, the 1.5.0.2 update runs fine for me. It does, however, break my ability to use Flash, or to reinstall flash, althought this may be an issue with macromedias site and not PFF. (says server not found.)

I use flash alot. My school uses it ALOT for instructional materials. (Flash papers).
And our school online learning center has flash elements that i can no longer use, not to mention Student Services.

I tried a fresh PFF installfrom sourceforge, did NOT install my extensions, in case one of them was the culprit, and updated to 1.5.0.2. Again, it broke. I luckily had a fresh backup. ( Monday night is my backup night, PHEW!!!).
