how are portable applications made? Like mozilla for instance, did the firefox team make the portable version or did someone else do it? If so how?
Thanks,
Nathan
I read somewhere that Mr Haller had helped the developer of TorPark to disable allow multiple instances of FireFox, for security purposes I believe. Is there a way to remove this restriction? I do most of my work on firefox, but have a need to be anonymous for my normal, non-work related browsing. I can get around the limitation by starting up TorPark first and then PFF, but then if TP dies, I can't restart it until I also shutdown PFF. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!
I use as a password manager Whisper. It is for me one of the bests. Home page for this aplocation is: http://www.ivory.org/whisper.html. But on the http://www.ivory.org are more good aplications. I know there is install package for Whisper. But if you install it and make your own file with passwords you can copy complete folder to USB key or USD drive and aplication works fine. I use it more than 3 years and i am satisfied. Hope it helps you also.
Hello!
I would like to ask if anyone has ever tried using Macromedia Apps (Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks) as portable apps. I often have to use work on other computers than my own, but I would like to be able to work with my apps (without installing copies of my apps in other machines, and littering other machines with registry entries or unneeded dlls).
All Macromedia apps have a section in Windows registry, and add their folder(s) inside the "Documents and Settings" folder, so it wouldn't be easy to use them as portable. But I guess a launcher could start by writing the corresponding entries in the registry, and delete them when the Macromedia application quits.

and

it gives me an error H:\ Access is Denied. Is there a way to fix this?

I just found out about UPX on this site and it seems like a very clever thing to use on portable programs. What I now wonder is three things.
1. Is it always good? Or can it cause unwanted problems in the programs?
2. What is the "downside" of it? Does it take more memory? Does it make the programs run slower from for example USB sticks?(USB 1.1? USB 2.0?)
3. What parameters should be used?
I have seen
-9
--best --compress-icons=0 --nrv2d --crp-ms=999999 -k
--best --compress-icons=0 --nrv2d --crp-ms=999999
on this boards... which to use?
Hello,
I've tried to setup a Mac-on-Stick on a windows xp (ntfs) system but get the error message "unable to locate rom image".
The rom image is in the same folder as the mini vmac.
I followed the "getting started"on http://nothickmanuals.info/doku.php?id=minivmac
Has somebody any experience with setting up Mac-on-Stick in a windows os and can give some advice?
thanks,
HansK.
Why not list portable Opera at this site? I used to use Opera before Firefox came out and am considering using it again. They also have a smaller footprint or application file size, making it more portable in terms of storage.
