logging in Putty (on a portable)

Submitted by carmi on June 17, 2006 - 4:04am

Hi,

I am using Putty on my USB Flash Device but I cannot find a way to save the logs to a directory stored on the flash drive. I have heard that Putty doesn't need to be changed to work as a Portable App but are they wrong and some settings aren't saved? Or do I need to just figure out the name changing for the flash drive.

Thanks, Evan

yadabyte disk problems

Submitted by azjerry on June 9, 2006 - 12:04pm

Downloaded the latest version and put it in a temp folder on my hard disk along with a copy of what's on my USB as I wanted to time different encryption options, both on the hard disk to get a feel for relative speed as well as on the USB itself.

Problem: The first time I ran YD it crashed immediately, something about asking Windows for abnormal termination or some such. Second time started OK.

Minor annoyance: put password in first field and hit Tab. Instead of going to the next password field, focus went to the Cancel button.

Problem: YD proceeded to encrypt things. Took about 4 minutes. When done it stated that had done 8992 files in "33 seconds", not the multiple minutes it actually took. Same sort of error happened on the decryption.

Help - Torpark "Trojan" = False Positive?

Submitted by Graeme on June 5, 2006 - 11:44pm

Hi,

I guess AVG (Free Edition) did it's update thing overnight, and today when I plugged in my flash drive up popped a warning saying "Virus Detected! While opening the file: J:\Apps\Topark\Torpark.exe - Trojan horse Downloader.Zlob.ANW" ...

Has anyone else received this, and can people please confirm that there is no spyware/trojan embedded in this app?

I had noticed that on running Torpark that from time to time AVG was scanning outbound mail(!!) so figured that Torpark was using POP3 port to contact somewhere on the sly...

Anyway, help and suggestions would be appreciated, and if this is just a "false positive" perhaps the developers of Torpark could contact Grisoft (the makers of AVG).

Mounting USB drive on 'locked' usb port?

Submitted by xhg on May 29, 2006 - 9:43am

I frequently use portable apps in an internet cafe (in russia).

The computers there have an accessible usb port at the front but most of the times (9 out of 10) when i plug one of my usb drives in, this does not mount. The drives 'power up' (so the usb port actually works) but they don't mount in windows (windows xp pro), i.e. the usual 'new hardware found' etc. dialogs and later the drive do not appear.

pStart mirror?

Submitted by killerspam on May 23, 2006 - 9:36am

Hello,

I've just started downloading these portable applications, and they are already extremely useful!

However, I would like to try out pStart, but the website on which it is hosted is returning 404 for every page, including the site's root.

Does anyone have a mirror to the pStart download?

Many thanks Smile

Help using dsCrypt

Submitted by GH0STce11 on May 18, 2006 - 5:30pm

Hey all,
I'm trying to get dscrypt working correctly on my jump, and i'm having some problems. whenever i try to drag a folder into dscrypt to encrypt the contents, dscrypt comes back with the error that it doesn't have permission to access the folder.

Drag&Dropping files workes fine, but for encrypting a program with tons of files and multiple folders would just be easier if i could drag and drop the main folder.

any ideas?

Cannot Delete DeepBurner Folder

Submitted by whatanerd on May 5, 2006 - 1:21pm

Hello All,

Here are the steps I took when installing and now I cannot delete/Erase(r) the folder:

Downloaded and installed per instructions at:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/?q=deepburner&m=Search

***HOWEVER, I notice that I downloaded and installed the non-portable version free file from the right-hand column @ http://www.deepburner.com/index.php?r=products&pr=deepburner&prr=provsfree

- Installed to my thumbdrive.

- I cannot get rid of folder. When I check the properties of the folder, it shows size as approx. 65gb. WOW!

- When I try to use DELETE option in Windows, it says cannot write to disk (only says this with this particular folder).

Help with Pstart remembering drive letters

Submitted by fletch on April 28, 2006 - 11:00pm

Hello,

I use pstart but noticed that it is not really 100% portable like some apps are.
By that I mean when I change from say my home pc to my office pc, I have to edit the config every time and let it find the current drive letter for my usb key.
At home my drive is G: but at work it is M: because of more network drivers, TS drives etc. Is there some way to get PSTart to automatically update the USB drive letter automatically without user intervention?

Thanks, Fletch
