DVD Shrink

Submitted by Devo on February 6, 2008 - 1:03pm

I found this program which will take a dvd and shrink it to fit on a writable dvd for backup purposes. I was looking at the website (http://www.dvdshrink.org/what_en.php) and was able to determine that it is freeware, but it is not open source. I think this is a great program, but was wondering if there were any portable, open source alternatives?

Ok Im Trying To Create A Personal And Portable Version Of Virtual Dimention.

I Created The Installer App To Make It Portable And There Is A Problem With The Adding This Registry Key To The Regedit........ :|

the reg file is called "registry.reg" as said in the template and stored in the data section.
the laucher wont apply the reg key into regedit and so it looks like its not portable.

What Code Do I Put Into The NSI File And Where In The File Do I Put It? (What Line)? So That It Will Apply The Reg File.

Im Using This Template:

Integrating PortableApps and TrueCrypt for easier initialization and better usability

Submitted by andywong9000 on February 4, 2008 - 9:43pm

Many people have suggested solutions of combining PortableApps and TrueCrypt. I also have one at http://webandlife.blogspot.com/2007/11/build-secured-and-portable-pim.html

Such solution has all features of U3 in respect of security and GUI. However, it required a few more mouse clicks and keyboarding.
1. When inserting the USB, the VBScript will ask for a drive letter to mount the TrueCrypt container.
2. Before gracefully unplug the USB drive, I need to first close Portable Apps Menu and other portable applications, then unmount the container.
3. Two tray icons are used.

Release Discussion

Are releases shelved on purpose just to spread the new releases over a longer time period?

From one point of view I can appreciate it, as it means more regular releases. But if releases are delayed on purpose it's also annoying having to update PAM every few days or so with one new release.

Diff? on Flash speed in running PAs?

Submitted by cadabra on February 2, 2008 - 6:43pm

Hi -

I am looking to buy a 4 or 8 GB flash drive, and want to figure out how many bucks I should put towards faster read / write times, for use on Win XP?

Running portable apps - I see 10 mb/s write, 20, 30; 5, 7, 10, 19, 200 read times.

Also should I steer clear of the ReadyBoost models - seems like memory is set aside for Vista, which I cannot access?

Also want to uninstall all stuff they come with - migo, syncing stuff, etc., so I can use the apps I want from this site.

If this is not the right forum for these questions, please tell me of one.
