Commenting on old Chain Proxy Request Apps posting by Ross Goodman

Submitted by megabyte24 on April 25, 2014 - 2:29am

In my search for a proxy that would allow modification of headers, I came across https://portableapps.com/node/777 page. Then, after finding and starting to use proxomitron, I remembered the aforementioned person's issue, and realised that this program also solved his issue (At least I think I understand his issue - http://www.inetprivacy.com/a4proxy/chaining-proxomitron.htm).

How to solve problems for applications that need .net framework?

Submitted by Peter8087 on April 23, 2014 - 10:31am

I have converted one program that requires .net 2.0 in portable format and i am running the program on Windows 7 x32. The program runs fine most of the time but sometimes just stops to work and i have to restart it to make it work again, and i think this is related to the .net framework.

For programs that required .net framework do i have to insert any command in launcher.ini or appinfo.ini to make the program run without problems?

Problem with appicon.ico file

Submitted by Peter8087 on April 23, 2014 - 8:37am

Why in this appinfo.ini example: https://portableapps.com/development/portableapps.com_format#appinfo
it shows that the path to the icon must be like this: ExtractIcon=App\AppName\AppName.exe

But when i try to create the portable launcher it is looking for the icon file in \App\AppInfo\appicon.ico, and if it is not there it gives error and can not create the portable launcher.

Update Errors???

Submitted by SGB74 on April 22, 2014 - 7:24pm

I'm having update errors with recently updated apps, starting with Mcafee Stinger, Rufus, Task Coach, and Unetbootin.

When attempting to update from within the portable apps platform, a connection is never made and then times out with the display box stating, "Download Error: SendRequest error on file" with a redirection link to source forge with the said app in question. Also when trying to download manually from the portableapps site in hopes of updating, the page never loads for either app to be downloaded either.

Creating a Portable App?

I've been through most of the documentation and from my reading I should be able convert a existing opensource app into a portable app correct?

It would be very helpful if there was a practical example of taking a non-portableapp and turning into a portableapp.

The existing documentation is very detailed but its difficult to assemble it into a functional example of creating a portableapp.

If there are any functional examples out there on how to create a portable app, please point me to the right references.

Thanks!!
