question and request

Submitted by ZeroX4 on March 9, 2014 - 9:57am

ok so i post it here cause idk where it fit better

my question and request is about program called antimicro
which in short of it is gamepad profiler (bind keyboard/mouse buttons/actions to gamepad buttons)

so in other words you can setup your gamepad to games that dont even have gamepad support and all that inside antimicro profile with no game modification

so you can leave game with default buttons and have customized them in antimicro game profile

in short of it it does exact same thing as xpadder do
with the fact antimicro is FREE

and here is my question

InnoExtractor - a tool to unpack files from Inno Setup installers

Submitted by Karoto on March 6, 2014 - 11:36pm

InnoExtractor

"Extract data from any Inno Setup installer"

InnoExtractor is a powerful tool that you can use to extract the internal files of Inno Setup installers and more.

The application can be useful if you don't have administrative privileges to run a setup pack, for example. It does not have a wide range of features available, but InnoExtractor can be easily figured out, even by less skilled users.

GnuCash 2.6.1 (current PA version) has non trivial date bugs

Submitted by Wm ... on March 5, 2014 - 12:57pm

GnuCash 2.6.1 (current PA version) has date bugs.

*These are non-trivial*

GnuCash 2.6.2 has been released at
http://www.gnucash.org/
in part to fix these problems (see the release notes) and I have been forced / chose to use that instead of the PA version for my finances to make sense. I am OK as I use both as an occasional developer / tester.

Request: could the PA / GnuCash maintainer treat this as a "more than normal" update on behalf of others that aren't used to switching between standard and portable.

So are all PortableApps.com apps "stealthy"?

Submitted by mindstormer on March 4, 2014 - 2:14am

So are all PortableApps.com apps "stealthy" meaning that they leave behind no cache or any traces of the app's usage on a computer after they are closed? And that if they do leave cache it would be in the same folder as the installation directory which is presumably on the flash drive?

That's the philosophy PortableApps has, but does that mean apps with its extension and apps submitted on the site by developers all follow this philosophy?

Minor version updates cover major version downloads

Submitted by MilesAhead on March 3, 2014 - 2:31pm

Minor version updates cover major version downloads. It might seem like doing us a favor as the latest version supposedly has the latest fixes. But what happens in the Firefox situation is, AddOns break with the minor update. Wanting working AddOns back one tries to download the previous version only to find it's gone.

One may say "save the old installer." But if you use Update from the Firefox Help menu you don't get an installer. It updates with no way to back it off.

Partnering Program

Submitted by luigiasti on March 1, 2014 - 4:26am

Hello I have a set of questions related to the partnering program.
In details:
- how a company could partecipate to the partnering program?
- which are the cost of the various partnership levels (bronze, silver, gold)?
- which is the type of support granted by each partnership level?

thanks in advance.

PortableApps Overlay DE?

Submitted by Colton DRG on February 26, 2014 - 12:27pm

At my school, the computers are locked down to the point that most of the Windows customization is disabled, and their network policy states that if students install ANYTHING on a computer without an administrators written consent, they threaten to suspend or even expel students. That's why I use PortableApps.com.

A few of the things that I am not allowed to mess with that bug the crap out of me are as follows:
- Desktop Background
- Pinned Applications
- Taskbar Icon Size
- Taskbar Autohide Setting

I need 3 portable browsers to run simultaneously - Recommendation?

Submitted by trust on February 26, 2014 - 5:06am

1 Firefox Portable - sure deal
1 Iron Portable - sure deal

Chrome portable used to be my 3rd one. Since iron.exe became chrome.exe what is my best bet?

Edit: I was not clear enough. I am familiar with Chrome-like browsers and Firefox. Preferably I do not wish to implement and learn a 3rd one, I would rather use a second profile in either Chrome/Iron or Firefox. I do not necessarily want to delve into editing .ini-s and such, a simple one click solution is preferred which 'just works'.

The question is which one is it?
