Sorting apps

Submitted by MaiiDreamstar on June 12, 2011 - 1:25am

Now, we can only sort the apps with A-Z, but this is not user-friendly since the way is too mess for me.

Is it possible to sort the apps by my self without adding 1,2,3 in front of the name of the apps?

Is it possible to adopt folder in the menu?

Submitted by MaiiDreamstar on June 12, 2011 - 12:12am

Sometimes, there are some apps are in series or not in series, however, users may want to organize the apps in a folder like Windows' menu.

Then, is it possible to adopt folder in the menu?

For example, I want to set up a folder called Mozilla to store Firefox and Thunderbird. Or maybe I would like to put different notepads together.

Therefore, I think folder maybe useful about the menu.

USB Autorun

Submitted by teetwo on June 11, 2011 - 1:59am

I am working on a script [AHK] to perform various options to overcome the loss due to
Microsoft's upgrade.

I like PortableApps and will have it load on insertion not just show a folder. It does mean disabling Autorun for the usb in question. I have a flash disinfector folder on the usb drive so although the Computer recognizes the drive it does not react. I run this script and have a Action.txt file on the drive that has the commands. Only run at present. It replaces autorun.inf

If anyone wants to try it I will make it available for further suggestions etc

Dwarf Fortress

Submitted by Jxx on June 9, 2011 - 9:43pm

i play a game called dwarf fortress
it's kind of addictive
and i've found that by default, it doesn't install anything to the computer registry
just makes a folder and puts all the files there
and i thought "hmm, i wonder if this will run from USB?" so i tried it and it worked
so i added it into my portableapps suite and it works great!

the link is
Dwarf Fortress @ bay12games

enjoy!

this may even cause a future between PA and bay12

Process Monitor - filtering log

Submitted by ImStillA - Beginner on June 6, 2011 - 2:02pm

Hello!

I monitored a program using Process Monitor, but today I found a problem while filtering.

I wanted to see what files were created during the installation, so I set up a filter to show only
"Disposition: Create".

Now I tried to look in that log for a file I certainly know was created during the installation. I copied its name and put it in the search function - nothing found.
it searched through the whole updated log with "Disposition: Create" filter but did not find the name of the file.

Errors following hibernation

Submitted by timtranslates on June 5, 2011 - 5:48pm

I've found several comments about this, but I've not found a solution. I'm currently trying to recover my ThunderBird Inbox following an error resulting from hibernation while using ThunderBirdPortable. Does anyone know a solution? For some reason I can't change the setting for what I want my computer to do when I close the lid. The option is greyed out (I'm using Windows 7 Starter).

I'm thinking of going back to XP, because otherwise I don't know how I can carry on with my current system of running PortableApps from my external hard drive.
