local update repository for packages

Submitted by frares on May 6, 2011 - 10:40am

I was wondering that it would be a bandwidth saver if we could check for updates both remotely and locally:

I have some colleagues in the company I work for, and we all use and enjoy having such nice and handy portable apps.

If there are new packages, they would be downloaded to a local repository first, then updated to the flash drive. Latter, other guys would have most of the updated packages already available locally.

Thanks for all that good stuff.

USB Drive Speed Test

USB Drive Speed Tester

I searched for something to test my USB Drives and found the following article:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-lightweight-tools-to-check-the-speed-of-y...

I am using CrystalDiskMark3 and I love it. (available for Win7 64bit and Portable!)
http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html#CrystalDiskMark
It is specifically for drives to test read/write speeds.

Simple and easy to use. It allows me to copy the results to notepad.
It will run a test file size of 50MB to 4GB form 1 to 5 times for average speed.

Best way to back up?

Submitted by Gray on May 1, 2011 - 4:02pm

I seem to have lost my calendars in Sunbird somehow, I suspect by trying to sync PortableApps to my desktop and maybe it went in the wrong direction or something. In any case, they seem to be completely unretrievable. I have been very happy with using PortableApps, particularly Sunbird and the browser-based mail in Opera. What I would like to know is what is the best way to back up the whole PortableApps file to another drive, such as my regular desktop hard drive (I have PortableApps on a portable hard drive because I frequently use different computers).

Submitted by maafcupu on May 1, 2011 - 10:01am

Updating Google Chrome Portable(10) to Google Chrome Portable(11)create error "reinstall application may resolve problem".
Then I try install https://downloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/GoogleChromePortable_11.0...

same error too.
And now I can't use that browser. Any body else have this problem ?
What I should to do to get that browser work ?
Needed to compare with another browser.
Just another newbie here .

Additional Apps

Submitted by philpense on April 30, 2011 - 3:25pm

I write to inquire if one can install windows apps other than the default apps shown on this website. I would want to install some windows developer apps to a USB. Seeking an informed opinion. Much thanks as I await a reply.
