App Icons won't refresh

Submitted by polaris20 on August 21, 2009 - 12:32pm

Hello,

PortableApps is just flatout an amazing tool! One problem I'm having is getting the new icons to show up after I've installed new apps, such as GIMP, Putty, etc. I click on refresh in the settings menu, and nothing happens. Using this on a Win7 64-bit machine. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

If I browse manually to the apps, they run perfectly fine.

Thanks in advance!!

RSS feed from PortableApps.com doesn't reload automatically in PA Firefox 3.52

Submitted by Megafrog on August 21, 2009 - 10:10am

I like to keep my RSS feeds as pulldown lists on my Firefox bookmark toolbar just to keep track of sites casually. It's not an emergency if I miss anything so that's fine, but for some reason the PortableApps.com RSS feed does not update automatically. It only updates when I tell it to with a right-click Reload Live Bookmark.

Normally this might go into the Firefox forum except that every other feed works fine. Do others find they have problems with the PortableApps.com RSS feed specifically? Or is this something I really should put in the FF forum?

Thanks!

I believe that I have seen some references to Delphi programming so I thought this is very relevant:

A few statistics: A few hours after VPS update 090818-0 (contains detection Win32:Induc) we received hundreds of suspected “false positive alerts” – all of them were infected. In the last 12 hours (since VPS was released) avast! has found ~200 000 infected files.

Migrating from XP to Vista Business

Submitted by PollieXmas on August 19, 2009 - 4:32am

Hi All,

I was hoping to skip Vista and go directly to Windows 7, but got a bargain notebook that I could not pass on.

The migration from XP to Vista Business was not as smooth as I was hoping for and thought it a good idea to have a post on it. The idea being to make it easier for others who will be migrating. I would also imagine some of these guidelines would still be relevant when migrating from XP to Windows 7.

Try out Minefield (aka Firefox 3.7 Alpha 1 Pre) as a portable app

I've posted an automated PortableApps.com Installer for Minefield Portable. This is the nightly test build for testing technologies that will be in a later version of Firefox. It's labeled as 3.7 Alpha 1 Pre (which means way before even alpha 1 stage) so it is unstable, may do bad things and similar scary statements. It's not for use as an everyday browser, but it can be interesting to test out features as they land in the Mozilla development trunk.

The installer will automatically download the current trunk build as part of the install process, so it will always be up to date.

Launchers Link On Site

I think it would be quite helpful if you added a "Launchers" link to the top of the PortableApps.com website. It could go between the links for Applications and Suite. It would be organized just like the applications page, with categories. If would be up to John if Beta/Development Releases were put there or not. I just get tired of searching the forum for specific Launchers when we could have all of them located in easy-to-find repository.

New "More News" Page

Since we've been doing a slew of updates recently, I figured it would be an appropriate time to debut the new "More News" page. This is a link you can click from the homepage to see the latest news from PortableApps.com including stories that have fallen off the homepage. It's a handy way to keep track of what's going on if you've been offline for a while. And a handy way to track new app releases until our updater goes live.
