Hi everyone,

I'm from Sydney Australia and I was looking around for ages about a secure option for me to use Firefox and Thunderbird.

Then I found PortableApps by accident and I wanted to say thanks, I love it.

I created a TrueCrypt encrypted 800MB file on my 1GB USB Stick and loaded all the PortableApps in there.

I followed the following steps.

Reminder please on how to disassociate file allocations

Submitted by PollieXmas on July 29, 2008 - 10:23am

Hi All,

Can anyone please remind me where I go to disassociate file allocations in XP?

The problem is that once you have associated a portable app with a file and you move the postable app to another drive, Windows does not allow/recognise the new application/association.

I know there is a post here somewhere on how to delete the old associations without editing the registry directly, but I cannot seem to find it.

Thanks

Paul

Types [file association manager ]

Submitted by Jacob Mastel on July 28, 2008 - 10:55pm

I know there has been a lot of complaints about the lack of a file types manager especially when using the Vista interface. I found a program that is very good for managing file types and every part of the context menu for any extension on your computer. It's called Types. I was about to make it portable but then I realized it's written in C#. I know it can't be made portable but it's still a decent app and with no install could serve you well.

Running multiple profiles of PortableApp

Submitted by bendre on July 28, 2008 - 11:08am

Hi,

Currently i use multiple profiles of Portable Firefox and Pidgin by compiling the nsi file from Source Folder.

1. Open .nsi located in Source folder
2. Change section to !define NAME "FirefoxPortable2". original is !define NAME "FirefoxPortable"
3. Then search and replace \Data to \Data2 (this changes location of profile to Data2 folder.
4. Compile the nsi to exe file using NSIS.
5. Now I have two portable exe launchers FirefoxPortable.exe which is original pointing to \Data folder and 2nd one FirefoxPortable2.exe which now saves all settings to \Data2 folder.

Multiple installers

Submitted by nmanguy on July 23, 2008 - 2:05am

Now that I have a few (dozen) apps I like, and I have helped people make their own PA drives, I have to say that there's one thing I don't like. Installing the apps. I've looked around, but I couldn't find any way to install a large amount of apps with a single button press, and then let everything extract. Instead, I have to repeatedly click options, install, choose one app at a time, wait for it to extract, and then repeat for each app. It takes about 20 minutes for me to make a new PA install on a local disk, and then 4-10 minutes to copy it to a thumb drive.

Launching PA Menu

Submitted by palapaguy on July 22, 2008 - 7:30pm

I have been running U3 solely because of its auto run feature and launchpad with password access, which I like for security against casual hackers. But this requires more clicks than I'd like in order to get to the PA menu and from there launch a PA app. Then on shutdown I have to remember to close both PA and U3.

Can I eliminate U3 altogether, then upon flash drive insertion be prompted for a password, and then have the PA menu launch automatically?

Help with Autorun

Submitted by J_Freely on July 22, 2008 - 12:49pm

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this website. I've been using PortableApps for a week or two, and am incredibly pleased with its functionality.

However- I cannot for the life of me find out how to get the AutoRun to work. I'm not the most technical person, and I see the file on my drive (it has Setup Information underneath the main title). Can anybody help me get this feature to work?

I have a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 2GB, if that helps at all or is necessary.

Thanks.
